Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon is receiving social media blowback for a recent post in which she expressed bewilderment that her local CVS drug store is taking anti-shoplifting measures by locking up basic products like laundry detergent.
Cynthia Nixon — who ran unsuccessfully for New York governor in 2018 — tweeted her comment along with her disbelief shoplifting can be prosecuted as a crime. “As so many families can’t make ends meet right now, I can’t imagine thinking that the way to solve the problem of people stealing basic necessities out of desperation is to prosecute them,” she tweeted.

Certain Walmarts in low-life neighborhoods have been doing it for quite awhile now, especially in the cosmetics and personal hygiene areas. There’s some of em that have closed down due to such a high loss rate in those areas due to the loss exceeding any gain.

Forget the fact that these shoplifting rackets are rather surgical by pilfering the highest value items that sell the quickest at flea markets and online shops.

A quick glance at my local paper and Nixon’s theory dissolves. The shoplifters are rarely stealing items like baby formula, diapers or food to stay alive. They are stealing items that can be sold for drugs money like electronics and jewelry. Others that have been arrested are stealing items like beer, make up, sports gear and other similar stuff.
Drugs stores where you live locking up basic items is a sign that you should move.
