Idaho governor repeals mask mandate ban issued while he was away

Idaho Governor Brad Little repealed an executive order that prohibits the enforcement of mask mandates in the state, calling it "an irresponsible, self-serving political stunt," according to a statement the Republican released Friday. The face mask ban was signed by Lieutenant Governor Janice McGeachin, also a Republican, while Little was out of town.

"An executive order that was issued while I was out of state this week runs contrary to a basic conservative principle – the government closest to the people governs best," said Little said in his statement. "I do not like petty politics. I do not like political stunts over the rule of law."

In McGeachin's order, political subdivisions like public schools would be prohibited in Idaho from mandating face masks. It followed a similar executive order in Texas which has barred most government entities from requiring face masks.

"I firmly believe that you have the right to make your own decisions about masks, vaccines, and how to raise your children," she wrote on her website Thursday. "You don't need the government to tell you what to do."

While I agree with the ban, the LT Governor was out of line to issue that executive order without the concurrence of the Governor.

She needs to run for Governor, I’m pretty sure she would win.

Masks are as effective at keeping out the virus as a chain link fence is at keeping out mosquitoes.

Last time I read about a Lt. Gov. overstepping like this was a guy named Mike somethingerother, and I don’t recall ever hearing about him since. I think it was Jerry Brown’s first time around. Maybe not. That would be California.

An executive order on masks is not law. Thats how it got repealed. This governor is a dumbass! And since when are manditory masks a basic conservative principle when there is no science in fact based on it? The Lt. Govenor was the only one in town while Little was out, so technically she represented the govenment closest to the people. Folks the jokes write themselves here!

She was not out of line.
He is.
His repeal is an irresponsible, self serving political stunt.

Not very clearly written article. You have to go to the third paragraph to figure out what is going on. The first two are misleading.

“She was not out of line.”

Yes she was, unless she made it clear to him that she was going to take that action when she could. If she felt that strongly she should have given him the ultimatum.

As the “deputy” you don’t blindside the boss.

I think people are fed up with government officials at every level, the good ones along with the bad ones.

Americans have had more than a year of being “ruled over,” and they don’t like it.

It’s un-American.

You do when ‘the boss’ practices douchebaggery.

She’s running for governor in 2022.
The “boss” needs to be culled.
