Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland never fought in WW2 either; if Ireland was to fight it would have been a brief war against England it would quickly lose (the northern counties were, and still are, occupied).
In light of what everyone knows about Stalin today, the countries that refused to fight in WW2 don’t seem so bad. We enabled Stalin to kill and enslave millions more after the war. As you see today, the US was never “de-Stalinized”.
Indeed we’ve not been destalinized. Though there was an effort at defeating internal communism in the 1950’s.
