Gov. Inslee on Thursday announced the state is incentivizing people in Washington to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
The incentives announced include: — Lottery cash drawings, with prizes totaling $2 million — Higher education tuition and expense assistance — Sports tickets and gear — Gift cards — Airline tickets — Game systems and smart speakers
Starting next week, the Lottery will conduct one drawing for $250,000 every week for four weeks for all vaccinated individuals. At the end of the four weeks, there will be an additional, final drawing for a $1 million prize.
The program is retroactive.
Washingtonians who are vaccinated don’t need to do anything to be entered in the four drawings. The Lottery will automatically gather names from the DOH statewide immunization database.

Two questions: 1) Where does the governor get the authority to put this program in place? To my knowledge, the state legislature has not passed a bill to make this happen; and 2) Why is there a statewide COVID immunization database and why can the state lottery folks tap into it? Is there a statewide database for all our medical information?

" The only current option for people who suffer COVID-19 vaccine injuries is the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program, a system known for turning most applicants down. Since 2010, the program has received 701 requests for compensation and granted financial benefits to 29 people. Currently, 210 of those claims are pending, according to data updated on April 1 by the program."
"Administrative staff within the countermeasures program decide who receive benefits and review appeals. People alleging harm must file within one year of getting a vaccine, according to the program's website.
The program also will not compensate anyone for non-economic damages, such as pain, suffering and disfigurement...."

Giving people food, beer, lottery tickets, etc to take a vaccine seems so wrong to me. If the vaccine is that great then they should be able to convince people with the science behind it. This is a typical Democrat tactic similar to giving people a free lunch or a gift card on the way to the polls as a way to get their vote.
