"Manchin and another centrist, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), have created irksome obstacles within their own caucus, and Democrats have yet to land on a strategy for dealing with the internal dissent." "A vocal portion of the party believes that challenging Manchin and Sinema from the left is the best way forward."

A host of Democratic leaders and progressive activists who spoke to The Hill on Monday expressed a mix of resignation and anger over Manchin’s weekend op-ed voicing his objection to the For The People Act."

The democrats want to cast this as a voting rights bill to pressure Manchin. They are angry!

If only Joe Manchin would jump to the Republican party, he’d be in office for life.

Not fluid in W. Virginia politics but some think he’s positioning for WVA governor.

If McConnell had half a set, he’d be playing “let’s make a deal” with Manchin right now.

I'd send them both invitations but we don't need any more RINOs.

Those two democrats still need to be voted out of office.

He'd be gone in two years because he would never survive the primary challenge. As a Democrat he's survived, albiet narrowly in the last race, and remained in office. Staying a Democrat is the only chance he has for reelection.

He was governor from 2004 to 2012. Why go back?

Maybe if ol’ Joe wasn’t such deadweight that his party lost House seats and blundered big key Senate races in IA/ME/NC last November, this wouldn’t be happening today with a 50-50 “majority” that Joe Manchin alone can thwart.

Agreed! Notice the media never describes Manchin as a, "Maverick".

It said by some who know him he hates being senator. He prefers a executive political position. It better suits his personality.

The announce his intention to retire from the Senate. I don't think he has a snowball's chance of being elected governor again, but if he really hates being a senator...

Maybe he’s thinking of a presidential run in 2024.

He positions himself as a moderate democrat (a la Bill Clinton) against the radical Harris. He positions himself as reaching across the aisle bi-partisan with standing up for the fillibuster, etc.

He could have a chance at being president.
Hell, if Bill Clinton could be president.....

Maybe he’s going to run against kamala in 2024, since demented joe will be gone to the locked room for dementia patients.
