WASHINGTON -- “SKYROCKETING MURDER RATES,” claimed the National Fraternal Order of Police. “An explosion of violent crime," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. “Democrat-run cities across the country who cut funding for police have seen increases in crime,” tweeted U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C.
On social media and in political speeches, some Republicans and pro-police groups say last year's calls to slash spending on law enforcement have led to a dramatic rise in killings in cities overseen by Democrats.
The increases they cite are real, and several big cities did make cuts to police spending. But the reductions were mostly modest, and the same big increases in homicides are being seen nationwide — even in cities that increased police spending. At the same time, the rates for burglaries, drug offenses and many other types of crime are down in many cities across the country.
The effort to blame Democrats for crime may offer a preview of Republicans' strategy for upcoming elections: a new twist on an old “law and order” argument from the party's past, harkening back to President Richard Nixon.

The media is detestable.
Clearly the blame lies with the 12 million new gun owners, not the “Summer of Antifa” and the resulting withdrawing of police from the streets.
You must be a Bongino listener.
State run media says state is not at fault? Okay.
No bias there, right? I mean it’s only fair.
Doesn’t ABC always let us know when Democrat claims are misleading?
Well, maybe not always, but mostly. Okay, sometimes?
You’re right... Never.
This has nothing to do with Democrats.
Never mind that most of these sh**holes are run by Democrats.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Gee, the authors forgot the criticism of emptying jails and revolving door Soros' district attorneys. Hmmm...
Murder is the one crime up due to resentment caused by the marketing of “white privilege”.
“and the same big increases in homicides are being seen nationwide..”
First, regardless those “cities” are still run by leftist’s Second, I don’t believe their contention that cities who have increased spending on policing have experienced “the same big increases”.
I do like Bongino. But, I’m not really a political talk-radio listener. I either listen to music or sports-talk.
Conversation in newsroom: “Murders are up everywhere, it’s getting hard to ignore? How can we report on it but not report on it? I know! Let’s write an article about how the republicans are lying and use the rising murder rate as an example!”
One does hope that the Crime Prevention Research Center will examine the article thoroughly.
The reason crime is up is that Democrats have decided not to prosecute crime. And have told us so. Naturally, criminals will commit more crimes.
But the underlying cause is that people are increasing in their rebellion against God. Our culture is materialist and wholly secular. It is as the days of Sodom.
We're blaming racism and climate change this month!
As earlier, BLM and Antifa have a free pass into the foreseeable future--so don't give them a mention.
Years ago in Wake Co, NC we elected a conservative school board. Every week of their term, the NAACP camped out at their offices and the Press reported on the "controversial" things they were doing like ending forced-busing... fulfilling promises they had made campaigning.
In the next election year, we were bombarded with stories about how NC students and schools were failing across the State. It was true... just not in Wake Co. We were the one bright spot in the State, but it was never noted until the final paragraphs of stories.
We lost our conservative school board and we are back to liberal policies. Schools suck more and it's no longer "controversial."
Great barometer: Mostly.
Mostly free speech.
Mostly right to assemble.
Mostly safe vaccines.
Mostly coherent President.
Who runs the big cities?
