The San Francisco Walgreens shoplifter defended by one CBS anchor last week as probably just stealing something he needed has reportedly been arrested and linked to at least seven different shoplifting incidents.

Lugo-Romero was arrested around 8:30 a.m. Saturday after officers spotted him entering a store on Haight Street, San Francisco Police Department said in a recent press release. At the time, police officers who recognized him followed Lugo-Romero, 40, into the drug store "to find him clearing shelves of cosmetics and placing the merchandise into a duffel bag," SFPD said.

After arresting him, officers determined the stolen goods were collectively worth approximately $978, police said.

"Officers had been looking for Lugo-Romero in connection with numerous investigations," police said. "Lugo-Romero was suspected of committing thefts from merchants in the Northern and Mission Districts and was recently caught on camera during a brazen shoplifting incident during which he placed merchandise into a bag and rode a bicycle out of the store."

Police said they were able to link him to six prior shoplifting incidents from May 29 through June 17. Five of the six previous thefts took place at the same Walgreens location at 300 Gough Street, police said.

CBS’s @TonyDokoupil excuses massive shoplifting from Walgreens in San Francisco: “That reads also as an act of desperation. You’re not getting rich off what you take from a Walgreens. You’re getting probably something you need.” @CBSThisMorning pic.twitter.com/FnqTyXnFfL— Brent Baker (@BrentHBaker) June 16, 2021

Isn’t the felony limit $900? Looks like he screwed up.

And how can he be shoplifting a Walgreens? I thought the crooks drove them all out of San Fran.

Cool. Just take what you need. No problem.

These shoplifters likely make more money in a year than I do.

Will the last Walgreens in SF remember to turn out the lights?

“That reads also as an act of desperation. You’re not getting rich off what you take from a Walgreens. You’re getting probably something you need.”

If you need it, work for it. The basic tenet of Liberalism: It's fine to steal from someone and give it to someone who "needs" it. Bull crap! For some reason we think it's honorable to be poor. More bull crap. 99% of the time people are poor because they don't want to make the effort to improve themselves. They make bad choices and then blame "society" for their problems. Sorry, Bucko, you made your bed and until I see honest effort to change it, you're on your own.

I am sure Tony will understand that if his home is burglarized that the burglars are only taking stuff they need...

The elites like the antics of the 'oppressed people'.

In Seattle they call this a survival crime.

“Not getting rich robbing Walgreens”???

“Police said they were able to link him to six prior shoplifting incidents from May 29 through June 17.”

Six heists, $1,000 each in two weeks. Fence the stuff for maybe $500. That’s $3,000 tax-free. Should pay for his dope. He is definitely getting something he needs.

Tony Dokoupil has to be one of the stupidest people on air.

He lets his weak mind display his stream of consciousness thoughts. Stupid people think they are being clever because those who are highly intelligent and witty make it look easy.

He had no evidence that a career criminal stealing from a half dozen places with $900 to $1,000 each time was not getting rich off Walgreen’s. Now he looks like even more of a moron.

You’re not getting rich off what you take from a Walgreens. //

No?, let’s crunch some numbers.

Steal new merchandise worth 999.00
a day.

Sell online at half prices

500.00 a day profit ( no taxs)

X 30 days

= 15,000.00 a month
X 12
= 180,000.00 a year

/
Do that for 6 years and your a millionaire.

Libtards or amoral liars ?
Both ?

That will be a while. After closing 17 stores, Walgreens still has 53 locations running in San Francisco. Of course, some areas of the city of San Francisco are pretty nice and relatively peaceful. They aren’t all off Mission or Market or Embarcadero or at Fisherman’s Wharf. There are plenty in residential neighborhoods where the criminals commonly aren’t active. There are shoplifters everywhere, but many SF Walgreens aren’t heavily victimized by shoplifting, like the 17 closed since 2019.

More will close, I am sure, as the criminals spread out a little bit.

“If you need it, work for it.” Those were the first words out of my mouth after I read the article.

At a 40% combined federal and state tax bracket, that $180k is worth $300k pre-tax at an honest job. Even if he is “working” half time, that’s equal to a high tech job at $150k/year before tax.

Even if you gave yourself weekends, holidays, and a vacation you still have $1million in less than 10 years.
