Eight people have been arrested for trespassing during a climate change protest outside Ted Cruz's Houston home.
Around 70 activists staged a demonstration outside the Texas Senator's $2million property in the ritzy River Oaks neighborhood on Monday morning, before police were called to the scene.
The protest was held by the Sunrise Movement, an organization advocating for political action on climate change, with video showing some of the participants sitting on Cruz's front lawn and refusing to budge.
Police negotiated with some of the activists for more than an hour, and threatened to take them into custody if they did not get off Cruz's property.
Eight of the protesters refused to yield and were arrested.

“How does somebody making less than $300k per year afford a $2mil house?”
My question also. I realise The UK Daily Mail is simply trying to make Cruz look bad, but still. $2,000.000.00 on a Senate salary? Don’t look good to me.
If the nuts are camping on your yard it’s a good time to water the lawn.
“How does somebody making less than $300k per year afford a $2mil house?”
What was the cost of the house when he bought it? Cruz is not responsible for the crazy housing market prices we are seeing now.
Did you actually look at the house? Did you go to Dailymail at all before you posted?
It was not 2 million when he bought it quite a few years ago. And I would question the press saying it was 2 million now.
That is not the house I would buy for 2 million.
My wife warned me before the BBQ “no politics” (she frequently issues that warning to me). So I dared to just briefly touch that hot rail and then let go.
It was a fun get-together with kids we’ve known for up to 27 years and I didn’t want to ruin it.
He is a lawyer and he hasn’t been a politician his entire life and some people know how to invest and make money. Some of the statements coming from Freepers are really ignorant, like you don’t know how the real world works.

Stop trying to start something. Sure, it’s a wealthy part of town but not the most elite.
Home prices in TX are skyrocketing. In 2016, his house was $1.5 million. It’s shot up a third in just 5 years.
Our little old dump has multiplied 8-9 times its original price. No thanks to the CA invaders.
The msm love quoting prices. They did the same when he went to Cancun.
“I think Ted’s wife is an investment banker at Goldman Sachs.”
That was my point.
His wife likely signed over one of her quarterly bonuses for the purchase price.
It was a dig at the author of the article.
How Ted Cruz Achieved A Net Worth Of $4 Million Allen Lee 4 Months Ago
Ted Cruz
Ted Cruz is an American politician who currently serves as a junior United States Senator for the state of Texas. He has an estimated net worth of $4 million. More information about how he achieved this fortune can be found below.
Cruz started his career as a lawyer, and this was an area where he had a lot of success. He graduated from Princeton University in 1992 and went on to graduate from Harvard Law School in 1995. His first few positions after finishing school were clerkships and he then went on to take a position in a private firm, Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal, in 1997. He joined George W. Bush’s presidential campaign in 1999 and worked for Bush as a domestic policy advisor. He was also a member of the legal team during the recounts that took place during the 2000 presidential election. In 2003 he was appointed as Solicitor General of Texas. As this is a high ranking-position, it would have come with a generous salary. During his time in the role, he appeared before the Supreme Court nine times. This is the most appearances a practicing lawyer in Texas has ever made.
According to the Fiscal Times, he worked as a private appellate attorney from 2008 to 2012. This is quite a difficult area of law to practice because it requires a detailed understanding of all aspects of law to determine if there are grounds for an appeal, and how this can be argued in court. The fact that this is such a specialized area of law means that it is very well paid. The more successful a lawyer is, the higher the fee they can command. Ted Cruz was a very good lawyer in this area, and so it is likely that he was very well-paid. He represented many high-profile companies including Pfizer and Toyota.
Sunrise movement. Most people get up at sunrise to head out to work. Not these widdle babies.
That would just cool them down and provide relief from the Houston heat and humidity.
Insurrection.

The Cruzebots have always really loved their guy. This is a big comedy routine as far as I am concerned. Cruz has advocated for more windmills than just about any other politician in the country pandering to the eco-loons. Texas generates 3 times more power from unreliable wind than any other state in the union. And yet they are still giving Ted a bad time. It is all politics.
“No thanks to the CA invaders.”
Y’all should see the dumps that sell for $2 million+ in San Francisco. I do indeed know people who’ve cashed out and traded up to McMansions in Texas. And, yes, they are indeed driving up prices because that 5br/5ba place with a pool in Texas looks like a steal at $2 million if you’ve just cashed out on a 2br/2ba condo in San Francisco for the same money.
Here’s a 2 bed/2 bath that sold for $830K in MA.

They have been holding get-togethers in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They invite the community to attend. Not sure they are getting any attraction there, though.
These damn groups sprout like weeds. We need RoundUp for these things.
“How does somebody making less than $300k per year afford a $2mil house?”
A seriously uninformed question. He was a lawyer and solicitor general for Texas and is now a Senator. Do you think that lawyers are not paid anything?
“Ted Cruz embarked on a legal career and served as a law clerk to J. Michael Luttig of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and William Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States.
He worked with Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal, now known as Cooper & Kirk, LLC, from 1997 to 1998. During this period he helped to prepare testimony for the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton.”
Sold a previous house, and, like many others, applied that as a down payment and then makes regular monthly paymnents on the remaining balance.
How about $ from a savings account and paid for it outright.
No need to posit some nefarious sneering “does he have a side job” here.
You are a very strong man! To stop arguing with an idiot is no easy task. :)
