The Justice Department announced the formation on Tuesday of "cross-jurisdictional firearms trafficking strike forces" in five major U.S. cities to track and stop the illegal transfer of firearms.
The strike forces, part of President Joe Biden's strategy to counter spiking violent crime rates across the nation, will launch within 30 days in the Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., metropolitan areas in coordination with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and other local law enforcement offices.
It's worth noting that the strike forces won't necessarily be limited to operating within those metropolitan areas, according to the DOJ, and "will share information and otherwise collaborate across districts where firearms trafficking schemes cross state or jurisdictional boundaries to focus enforcement against entire trafficking networks, from the places where guns are unlawfully obtained to the areas where they are used to commit violent crimes."
“Working with our local partners to tackle violent crime is one of the Justice Department’s most important responsibilities,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Today, the department is taking another concrete step to address violent crime and illegal firearms trafficking. Our firearms trafficking strike forces will investigate and disrupt the networks that channel crime guns into our communities with tragic consequences. This effort reflects our shared commitment to keep communities safe.”

The most disturbing thing about this is, IMHO, the federal government already has an agency that is supposed to do exactly that.

I can tell you one thing they do. They spend a lot of time going after drug dealers, who routinely carry guns, because it’s easy. In typical fed fashion, they’re not going to break a sweat. Low hanging fruit, an arrest and they’re good to go.
Gun dealers and trade shows hardest hit. Cartels and gangs rolling in isles.
The end result, as he promised, will to be to crack down on we lawful firearms owners.

It won’t happen because a demographic that represents 3% of the population commits over 50% of the violent crime in this country. And to be fair, most of that 3% don’t commit violent crimes.
I expect the ‘strike forces’ will concentrate on something else.
More likely firearms trafficking entrapment force.
Translation: Targeting conservatives in liberal cities thus making sure they get convictions or confiscation.
Crime guns. Weapons of war. Assault weapons. Oooooh. I am scared. Garland is a POS. Weapons have about zero to do with causing crime or anything else. The real problem lives and breathes in those $hitholes known as American cities.
Dolt! We have a drug trafficking crisis in my city since it is used as a hub for cartel shipments

They can start with Eric Holder and the DOJ. Fast and furiously.
Better have them raid the FBI ... they are continually providing explosives and firearms to their operatives to hatch their domestic terrorism plots to support their bonuses and promotions.
Who is going to arrest? The FBI, ATF or some other goverment group hellbent on ending the 2A?
The libs stopped stop and frisk in NY because it “was racist”. So how are they going to find the guns without disproportionately targeting gang bangers in these cities? Answer: they aren’t going after the gangs, they are going after law abiding gun owners.
Don’t forget they have expertise in raiding and burning down religious compounds. And, their snipers are pretty good at shooting kids and their dogs.
Cool, he’s going after all the inner city gang-bangers and their stolen weapons. Right?
