Sliwa was declared the winner over restaurateur Fernando Mateo with an over 40-point lead with nearly 70 percent of votes tallied.
Both candidates waged bitter campaigns centered around support for law enforcement amid a rise in violent crime in the city. Sliwa, who founded a group of volunteer crime fighters without any legal authorization, cast himself as uniquely qualified to reverse the spike and said he would hire 3,000 more police officers.
Sliwa, also a radio host, won the endorsement of Rudy Giuliani, a personal lawyer for former President Trump who was elected New York City’s mayor as a Republican in 1993.
However, the New York City of today is much different than the one Giuliani led in the 1990s.
Democrats have since established a deep stronghold in four out of the city’s five boroughs and have a yawning voter registration advantage over the GOP, making the ultimate victor of the Democratic primary the overwhelming favorite to win the November general election.
A winner has not yet been declared in the Democratic primary, which is using ranked choice voting and will not likely be called until next month.

Curtis Sliwa actually SURVIVED an assassination attempt by the Mafia Don, John Gotti in 1992.
He was kidnapped and shot by two gunmen after entering a stolen taxi in Manhattan. The taxi picked up Sliwa near his home in the East Village, and a gunman hiding in the front passenger seat jumped up and fired several shots, hitting him in the groin and legs.
The kidnapping was foiled when Sliwa leapt from a front window of the moving cab and escaped. Sliwa underwent surgery for internal injuries and leg wounds.
Prosecutors claimed that Gotti was angered by remarks Sliwa had made on his radio program about Gotti’s father

New York City needs a PRAGMATIST. Somebody who is a DOER and not a left-wing ideologue like Bill De Blasio.
The city had 24 years of relative safety and prosperity under Rudy Giuliani (8 years ) and Mike Bloomberg ( 12 years ), and yes, even the first 4 years of Bill De Blasio when he did not undo any of the policies the previous two Republican Mayors made.
It was only in the second term of De Blasio that his ideological colors came to light and he went totally insane. This city needs to REVERSE and UNDO all the damage De Blasio did. Good riddance to him.

Sliwa, the never Trumper, beat a Trump supporter. Not great news, but neither of them would have a chance.
Kuby (I believe) was on the payroll of Gotti Inc. There was a week of extremely tense and cringe-inducing radio where Kuby basically told Curtis that he really wasn't shot by a mob guy (I think Sliwa couldn't describe the assailant no the stand). It was riveting...sort of like listening to a couple headed for divorce.
Sliwa is a showboater, has lied, and ill-mannered. Yea, put a fork in him. He has as much of a chance as some other loud and obnoxious New Yorker of which we've heard a thing or two...
Great news!! It’s disgusting how they haven’t even mentioned the R race. Even the Post (the only daily newspaper I read unless I need to see some Jersey story) hasn’t mentioned him or his opponent even once. But, oh my goodness, they ENDORSED Eric Adams every day for the last 2 weeks at least.
I don’t know what his reason for being a nevertrumper was early on but he has more of a chance. If we keep saying a Republicans can’t win, we submit to being like Chicago (50 years of Democrat one party rule) or Beijing, China (72 years of CCP one party).
“Curtis and Kuby” Curtis & Kuby was GREAT RADIO. I do remember Curtis getting shot but I don’t remember all the details you have. Not disputing them.
But it was the perfect combo of real life, and news. They had good chemistry and when the producer (or whoever it was) would chime in, they could be hilarious.
And, as for Kuby, the greatest break criminals ever got was when Ron Kuby decided to be on their side. Because when Curtis would get him to “change hats” and look at legal cases in the news from the Prosecution side, he was always great.
Maybe Curtis could bring Ron into the Admin, get him to do some do-goodery. Maybe he could fix NYCHA or something where he can’t do any harm by being a commie.
Nothing less than someone like Vlad Țepeș will save Gotham from itself.
Sliwa didn’t vote for Trump last November.
He was co-hosting his radio show with TDS-afflicted Juliet Huddy, and he very rarely if ever defended Trump from her outrageous attacks.
