Organizers of the Tokyo Olympics agreed Thursday to ban spectators from the Games after Japan declared a state of emergency to combat surging COVID-19 cases in the capital.
The move comes just two weeks before the opening Games on July 23.
President Seiko Hashimoto, who is the president of the Tokyo Olympics Organizing Committee, said it was “regrettable” that the sporting event would be held without crowds.

How many billions of dollars have been spent by Japan, and how many billions will they lose on these games, without the ability to sell tickets to spectators?
What a bitter pill to swallow for the Japanese. They postponed the Olympics from last year because of the virus, but now won’t allow fans because of the virus.
They may as well cancel the games.
As long as the Chinese get their games this winter !!!
The Japanese have abandoned their bravery — if not their very masculinity — at the vaccine dispensary door, as have so very many of the citizens of other countries. Too bad for them ... going through life irretrievably ignorant and irrationally scared.
What better way to keep the panic going than using a high profile event to show the public how the summer time sniffles are on the rise. I have no idea what your gif of Beck having one of his break downs has to do with it however.

Who knew the Olympics had any fans these days. It isn’t about the games anymore. It’s all about politics and social whatever.
The Olympics are destined to be held mostly in Third World dumps for the foreseeable future -- because any marginally intelligent political leader in a modern, civilized country would realize that hosting the Olympics is a terrible, costly idea.
I hope they make everyone compete with Hefty garbage bags tied over their heads. :-P

Just talked to my aunt yesterday. My favorite cousin has lived in Germany a very long time now.
She said to come for their semi-annual visits here via airline, they had to be vaccinated, had to take a quickie COVID test when at the airport, and still had to wear masks across the Atlantic!
Oh, and she says they MUST wear N95 masks in Germany. (Even Army base, which is where she works.)
Everyone has gone stark-raving mad.
Now I won’t have the chance to cheer on hammer and sickler Gwen Berry and the soccer team as they spit in my face. They’ll have to whip me the finger through my TV screen. Damn!

I’ve heard that in recent years, the Olympics organizations have had fewer and fewer cities and countries who even want to host Olympics anymore.
I think I heard that for some upcoming Olympics that they only had two cities bidding. The time when cities and countries were eager to host the games seems to be long past.
And among the reasons are financial. I recall how Peter Uberoth(sp?) ran the 1984 LA Olympics and those games were said to have turned a profit. Otherwise, the Olympic games seems to be a money pit for the host.
I hope NBC loses a ton of money on this.
