I notice Time doesn’t mention that the massacre came about because the sudden movements of a white Kia Sedan resembled the sort of approach suicide bombers in Iraq commonly used to try to commit massacres of civilians and military targets.
It turned out not to have a bomb on board but I’m not sure how quickly investigators were able to secure the scene and the vehicle, or if the investigators on scene were US, coalition, or locals with agendas and loyalties of their own.
The FBI didn’t go out there for a week. The bodies of the Iraqis could not be autopsied, obviously.
Obviously the “crime scene” was completely tainted.
Lots of things wrong that day and the days following were even worse.
