Events in South Africa affirm the importance of our Second Amendment: Their government has not yet been able to seize civilian arms
American Thinker ^ | 07/16/2021 | Andrea Widburg

A friend in South Africa has been keeping me updated about what’s going on there. According to him, it was “a well-planned attempt at provoking a civil uprising.” What’s extraordinary, though, is that, wherever armed, law-abiding citizens have been able to make a stand against the violence and anarchy, the rioters are backing down. My friend forwarded to me a round-robin letter (“the Letter”) that South Africans are sharing -- and that reflects his experiences. I’ve included excerpts from the Letter in the body of this post, but you can read the whole Letter here.

The ostensible reason for the South African riots is the fact that Jacob Zuma, a former president, was finally arrested on corruption charges. However, according to the Letter, “nobody that I personally know, cares about freeing an ex-president from jail, under whose watch the country turned into a garbage dump.”

The looting is comparable to what happened in American cities last year although on a much larger scale:

[T]he looting riots have been massive. Much, much larger than I’d thought. The video reports suck the breath out of you. The town of Empangeni is just a shell. Looted and trashed completely. Entire shopping malls emptied in other places. Cleaned out of everything from fridges to cell phones and flat screen TVs, and from bananas to wonder mops.

The looting has been indiscriminate and complete, with every business a target. Even animals have been horribly abused:

BUT NOTE THIS :

Some regions of South Africa are completely untouched. That’s because armed citizens -- armed with guns and anything else they could find -- have drawn a line that the looters have not even tried to cross:

Quietly, dozens of ordinary citizens spontaneously assembled, and drew a line. Beyond that line, no looter set his foot. They determined where the looting would stop, and it did not proceed one inch beyond.

They were so ordinary that it was almost extraordinary. Here an overweight pensioner in Crocks sandals. There a pudgy housewife with a small handgun. Elsewhere a young man with a hunting rifle. An Indian trader with a shotgun that has a drum magazine. A skinny youngster with a golf club. Another Indian woman, dressed in an elegant sari, but with a cane machete stuck through the back strap. Others just with paintball guns.

With the police nowhere in sight, they were there to protect their own. The ordinary, random citizens of South Africa who have had enough to suffering beneath the most corrupt regime in Africa. All reports from all corners told the same story. Law-abiding private citizens and private security companies have joined hands to present arms and stop the invaders peacefully.

In rare cases shots had to be fired, but for the most part, the mere sight of a wall of civilians who knew that their homes and livelihoods were at risk, was enough to make the looting mobs go elsewhere. The irony of it all is enormous. Just a few weeks ago, a new bill was proposed for public comment. This involved radical changes to the firearms act, which called for completely disallowing self-defence as a reason for obtaining a firearm license, and severely curtailing and eliminating most other reasons for owning arms as well.

Good thing we have the 2nd amendment to protect our firearm rights. Right? Hello?! Bueller?

Feel good story of the day. Armed citizens taking a stand against tyranny and mayhem successfully defend life and property.

Excellent.

South Africa, the Rainbow Nation!

Unemployment hovers around 33%, nearly 13% of the population has HIV, and this land of unparalleled natural beauty is known as the “rape capital of the world.”...Unable to reach their destinations — or learning that their destinations have already been ransacked and burnt to the ground — trucks are dumping their fresh milk on the side of the highway. Some estimate that the entire nation’s food supply will run out in two weeks, leading to further rioting and deeper incursions into the wealthier suburbs.

Good news is vigilante groups are forming composed of Whites and Indians:

Nearly half of the deaths appear to have occurred as a result of stampedes by overanxious looters, and many others seem to have come from vigilantes — White, Indian, and even black —

I see little to no hope for Whites in SA, they are hopelessly outnumbered:

South Africa’s population is 79.2% black African, 8.9% white, and 2.5% Indian or Asian.

That's not ironic. That's from the tyrant's playbook. It's as predictable as the sunrise.

The utter catastrophe that is South Africa shines the spotlight on communism itself.

If communism is anything, it’s an ideology of low intelligence.

It’s been shown that ordinary communists don’t understand, in their own minds, why they believe in communism.

I would also point out that those at the very top—like Klaus Schwab and George Soris—themselves are mostly without knowledge of their own motives.

A very sad state where jealousy and envy move one to violence.
A tale as old as Cain & Abel.

The political-tribal-regional divisions of South Africa are fascinating. Zuma gets his support (and most riots occurred in) KwaZulu Natal. Another even worse freak, Julius Malema, seems to have his base of support in Limpopo in the far Northeast.

The Cape Provinces seem to have been much more peaceful this time around

Perhaps its time to split the country up. Although the globalists and political elites of the EU and USA would never go for that, and will work hard to prevent it. Present-day South Africa is one of their key projects.

OK, to be fair, I have been to South Africa 3 times ( my in laws do business there ).

It is NOT a communist country. Capitalism thrives there.

I have to admit that WEALTH is HORRIBLY distributed with very few well off people amidst a sea of poverty.

RE: Africans are going after Indians because they tend to bed successful and own businesses.

The Indians live mostly in the city of Durban where about a quarter of the nearly 4 million inhabitants are of INDIAN descent. 15% are white. More than half are of the Zulu tribe.

It is also a crime ridden city with a high murder rate.

Criminals usually avoid targeting tourists because they know that the police response will be greater.

Heist or theft is a common crime in the city.

As in most other South African Cities, Most houses are protected by high walls and wealthier residents are often able to afford greater protection such as electric fencing, private security or gated communities.

After doing quite a bit of reading the last week, it seems South Africa is modeled on a European/American welfare state, with all the corrupt, violent politics of Africa and less means to pay for it.

At least 1/3 of the population in S.A. receive one of the several major welfare programs - Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant, Unemployment Insurance, Old Age Pension, etc... about 15% live in some kind of government-subsidized housing.

South Africa has 22.2 million registered taxpayers, of which 6.3 million were expected to submit tax returns. 1.58 million people are shouldering over 80% income tax paid. Ie) like California, tax rates are highly skewed

Up to 20% of the population carry HIV and ostensibly receive government treatment for it.

Its like a vast, poorer version of Chicago.

The so-called Coloureds? I believe that some of them are mixed-race and some of them are of Malay origin. Many (most?) of them speak Afrikaans.

If accepted, it [the legislation] would practically mean the disarmament of the private citizens of South Africa. Behind this act were the obvious sinister forces: The rabid activists of Gunfree South Africa, funded by the Open Societies organization of George Soros.

No surprise there. Disarmament means genocide. Anyone who thinks it leads anywhere else is delusional.
