Baseball is a hard game to master, especially hitting breaking balls. It has died in the inner cities as you need the space, a certain number of participants, and the equipment. Urban youths naturally gravitate to basketball (hence the decline in the percentage of black major leaguers),.... you only beed a hoop and a ball... you can even play and practice by yourself if necessary. But conversely baseball's popularity has grown exponentially in Latin American and Asia.
I watched aa few videos last night and was stunned......whatever happened to create people competing with every sort of gadget attached to their bow or determining a win by wearing sensitized vests which determine points.
Looks to me like it’s more a display of technology advances over the actual sport. I’m not impressed.
And just as soccer can be played anywhere, like in the Favelas of Rio, same as basketball, which is why France may dominate basketball, as they have soccer.
Even in Canada, basketball is beginning to overtake Hockey, especially with the recent success of the Raptors.
I have most of the documentaries about that team, which is more important than the overhyped Bulls ESPN series. They did and actually care about being an American. If people thought that Barkley is a conservative siding with cops during the BLM violence last year, listen to him back then he makes logical sense in a funny way.
It took a Montreal dynasty in the late 70s, followed by 15 years of dominance by the other-worldly Gretzky and Lemieux, to put that WWF version of hockey to bed.
The good news about the very woke US teams at the Olympics getting clobbered just keep coming.
I used to love the Olympics. Watched all I could since the late 60’s. Bruce Jenner was a national hero. I collected the Wheaties boxes. For the first time ever, I will not watch ONE SECOND. Started with the perverts at USA Gymnastics and now the woke joke show. I personally invite them all to go attempt a sexual congress with themselves.
Pretty much Larry Robinson did it all on his own, I remember the SI Cover of him destroying the Flyers player, pretty much showed the era was over.

Baseball is a Caribbean game, too. Heck, we even get players from places like Aruba & Curacao on occasion. You know the instant the Castro-ites are gone from Cuba that MLB will put a franchise in Havana.
Except France won the last World Cup, the biggest and most important sports trophy on the planet.
I note even in Japan now, Sumo is being dominated by Mongolians.
And France is using the same blueprint that produced their championship in Soccer, in Basketball.
For years in France, Soccer was second-fiddle to Rugby. That started to change in the 80s.

That was the official turning point — Larry Robinson hammering Gary Dornhoefer with a body check that literally broke the boards at the old Montreal Forum in the 1976 Stanley Cup Finals. They had to stop the game to repair the boards after that wreck. LOL.
I remember the good old days when the Olympics were a celebration of National Pride where our young people trained, worked hard and then went out and did their very best, win or lose.
When they came home they were celebrated for their accomplishment, even if they didn’t have a Medal around their necks.
Now the Leftist so called Progressives have ruined the Olympics, just like everything else they touch.
Maybe spend more time thinking about sportsball and less time thinking about do I kneel, do I turn my back, do I raise my fist, do I put on a dress . . . .
