Team USA was fried by the French in a stunning men’s basketball opening loss at the Tokyo Olympics.
The Americans led Team France by seven with under four minutes remaining, but the French scored the next 14 points for a shocking 83-76 victory at Saitama Super Arena.
Nets star Kevin Durant was in early foul trouble and finished with 10 points on 4-for-12 shooting in 21 minutes before fouling out in the closing seconds. Jrue Holiday net a team-high 18 and Bam Adebayo adding 12.

Even the 1992 Dream Team of NBA superstars were very proud to be representing the country. Magic Johnson talked about guys getting choked up on the medal stand when “our Anthem” - as he referred to it was - was played.
These guys don’t even want to be there.

USA Basketball with NBA players: 3-5 in their last eight games.
The wins: A seventh-place game at the World Cup and two exhibitions.
The losses: A World Cup quarterfinal, a World Cup consolation game, two exhibitions and the Olympic opener.
It just keeps getting better !

It’s karma. The fates despise disloyalty.
That whole thing turned out much cooler than I thought it would when it was announced. Those players were Americans who didn't like the rest of the world thinking it could beat us at our game. So they truly saw themselves as representing the country. Incredible what has happened to attitudes since then.
Not as funny as you think. I picked France to win the Gold even before today.
They are developing players in the banlieues of Paris and Marseille, like the New York City playgrounds did in the 1970s.
While, I still believe as of now, if the US really tried their best with the best players, they would beat anybody, even those days are quickly coming to an end.
They put up the white flag just like France does.
