What remains of you will be transported to a hospital where management will file a claim and get 15 percent more on their government reimbursement because you ‘died from’, or at least with COVID.
There are exceptions, of course. I am told that St George Floyd, for example, tested positive for COVID but too late — not too late because he had expired but too late because a racism, racism, racism narrative intervened and took priority.

If not, how can they say how many cases there are?

The CDC has already said that the covid PCR test CANNOT DISTINGUISH between the covid, influenza A and influenza B viruses.
So all of the numbers of covid cases and deaths are WRONG.

The older folks are largely vaccinated and aren’t as likely to die or even get hospitalized as in 2020.
The younger folks hospitalized generally still survive.
Many factors can come into play, so the standard scientific method is the clinical trial to keep various factors nearly equal.
Vaccines are never meant to protect infection. Until they discover a vaccine which creates a body shield of glass around you, the respiratory virus will find a way to float into your lungs. What the vaccine is supposed to do is prepare the body to fight the virus when it invades.
Way back in 1946 I was vaccinated with smallpox as a 6 year old in kindergarten. At age 9 I caught the smallpox infection and became seriously sick. I think the vaccine saved my life because most 9 year old unvaccinated kids did not survive.
The mortality rate from smallpox for all age groups is 30%+.
