Anybody have a better candidate for PM in Australia than Mr. Morrison?

When they get to 75% the 80% will be changed to 85% because of something new in “science” .

By then the vaccinated will be shedding so much virus they will have cases higher than they have ever seen. Then, it is back to lockdowns.

I could write a lot on Aussie politics but its been “Dodge City” there with the parties deposing their own leaders when the poll numbers go down just for that reason alone.

The two main forces are the Labor Party and the Liberal-National Coalition.

The Liberals are Scott Morrison’s party considered “Liberal” on economics as in pro-capitalist.

Their partner party is the National Party which represents rural farming and mining interests.

The Nationals just deposed their leader and installed Barnaby Joyce as numero uno. The Nationals upset that the Liberals their partners in power played footsie with “Climate Change” targets.

Third parties in Australia play a role jn the composition of the upper house, the Senate.

The House is elected by districts.

That funky system New York used in the Democrat Mayor primary and such is applied to voting in general elections in Oz.

Third party votes can add up in the Senate count to help a third party get a seat.

But in the lower house third party votes are whittled down to the final vote usually showing just big parties with a majority going to one of them.

Independents have won rural seats in Australian “company towns” where local business is all there is and they cut deals with big parties to get majorities for governments.

Unless Morrison is deposed from within new leadership is unlikely unless some new big third party emerges from the murky situation.

Why only 80%? Since they close down the country when one 80 year old man allegedly dies from Covid, why not make it 100%?

Why stop at 80% ?

Make it 99.9% !

If Covid is that deadly, you want to make sure the other 20% get jabbed.

The Prime Minister has to deal with state governments many of which are lead by socialists.

They are the ones who impose lockdowns. He can’t stop them. The constitution puts the power in their hands.

All he can do is negotiate an agreement and that’s what he’s trying to do here.

Different levels of government. Lockdowns are imposed by state governments. They have a tendency to overreact. The Prime Minister isn’t responsible for that. If it was up to the Prime Minister we would not be locking down anywhere near at often, if at all.

He needs to negotiate with the state governments and this is the type of standard they are insisting on. Some of them probably would like 100%.

I am relieved that your PM did negotiate with the state leaders, though. In our federal system, things are similar. My state, Maryland, locked down like a damned prison in 2020, but finally removed the last of its measures this past June 15, except for mask mandates on transit and in some health facilities. The state I’m moving to, Florida, only partially locked down in 2020, but almost immediately began lifting their restrictions. Their governor, Ron DeSantis, has pledged not to re-impose restrictions in response to the current Delta variant wave.
