WASHINGTON, Aug 4 (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department is looking into the whereabouts of a $5,800 bottle of whisky given to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo by the Japanese government, a U.S. government document made public on Wednesday showed.
A notice from the State Department's Office of the Chief of Protocol dated July 22 listing gifts to U.S. federal employees from foreign governments reported in 2019, said the whisky was donated to Pompeo by the government of Japan on June 24, 2019....
The New York Times quoted two unnamed people briefed on the matter as saying that the U.S. government was never paid for the bottle and the State Department had asked its inspector general to determine what happened to it....

It’s funny, every job I’ve ever worked you’re not allowed to accept a gift > in value of $100.00 so there wasn’t the appearance of favoritism if there is ever potential legal action. Legal action which could include Government investigations and fines. Yet, the Government accepts gifts in the thousands without a second thought.
One of HilLIARy’s holdovers grabbed it and headed to NYC with it.

These were my FIRST thoughts: Was this bottle ever in Secretary Pompeo’s physical possession following the presentation? Normal procedures for such gifting is to graciously accept the gift, hold it for picture(s) and then hand it to an aide. Beyond that, I’d bet that the Secretary of State had zero interest in the item.
THEN, in the article and SOURCED from the New York SLIMES, came this; “The Times report said it was unclear if Pompeo ever received the gift, as he was traveling in Saudi Arabia on June 24, 2019, when Japanese officials gave it to the State Department.”
So this is Reuters keeping a NYT attack alive against a Trump Administration Cabinet Secretary on the basis of a report that has this ‘gift’ listed with the entry as “Disposition Unknown.” So, obviously no bias working here!
