I need to look at the appropriate NFPA Code on that. That does seem to be a common size, I’d like to know why.

The Code will be different for a set range of sizes, ie. 10-100; 101 - 500; or something like that.

LMK what you find out!

Keep in mind that the large/expensive bills in Congress now have FEDERAL control of Zoning. Not local control.

Even all that consumptive water use by urbanites pales in comparison to agriculture obscene use in California.
40% of every drop of water in California is used by agriculture urban use is only 10% of the total cutting that in half would only save 5% its not the urban users who are hogging the water it’s farmers.

They grow grass alfalfa and hay in the deserts with water losses of 50+ inches a year in rain fall equivalent that’s insanity and should be illegal. They put four to five FEET of water on that grass crop for every square foot of ground area let that sink in four to five FEET of water flooded over a million acre area to grow a crop that shouldn’t be grown in a desert at all.

https://alfalfa.ucdavis.edu/%2Bsymposium/proceedings/2008/08-265.pdf

“Alfalfa is California’s single largest agricultural water user due to the amount grown, typically about 1 million acres, and its long growing season. Seasonal alfalfa water applications generally range from 4,000,000 to 5,500,000 acre-feet.”

https://www.ppic.org/publication/water-use-in-california/

“Despite population growth, total urban water use has also fallen.
The San Francisco Bay and South Coast regions account for most urban water use in California. Both rely heavily on water imported from other parts of the state. Total urban water use has been falling even as the population grows. Even before the latest drought, per capita water use had declined significantly—from 231 gallons per day in 1990 to 180 gallons per day in 2010—reflecting substantial efforts to reduce water use through pricing incentives and mandatory installation of water-saving technologies like low-flow toilets and shower heads.”

Interesting. Btw, I recall when people in S.CA cut back water use significantly, over 10 percent they cut back at the time, due to drought, and what did they do? They raised our water rates!

Btw, last time I went through the valley and back, I was amazed by how many hundreds of thousands of acres seemed to be devoted to almonds. And I don’t think that’s a water friendly crop either.

Begs the question. Why? Somebody must be making big money.

Almonds water friendly no way..

“To grow one almond requires 1.1 gallons of water, and to grow a pound takes 1,900 gal/ lb[1]. “
https://www.paesta.psu.edu/podcast/how-much-water-does-it-really-take-grow-almonds-paesta-podcast-series-episode-43#:~:text=To%20grow%20one%20almond%20requires,high%20demand%20at%20this%20time.

“Unlike other crops, almonds always require a lot of water—even during drought. Annual crops like cotton, alfalfa, and veggies are flexible—farmers can fallow them in dry years. That’s not so for nuts, which need to be watered every year, drought or no, or the trees die, wiping out farmers’ investments.”

Here’s the Real Problem With Almonds

RAVEENDRAN/AFP/GETTY IMAGES
Almonds: crunchy, delicious, and…the center of a nefarious plot to suck California dry? They certainly have used up a lot of ink lately—partly inspired by Mother Jones’s reporting over the past year. California’s drought-stricken Central Valley churns out 80 percent of the globe’s almonds, and since each nut takes a gallon of water to produce, they account for close to 10 percent of the state’s annual agricultural water use—or more than what the entire population of Los Angeles and San Francisco use in a year.”

Because senior water rights from the early 1900s means they get water first at dirt cheap prices they have zero incentive to conserve it. $75 or less an acre foot for water taken from the Colorado River. Like I said it should be illegal to grow grass that needs four to five FEET of water a year in the desert. A good portion of it is shipped to the middle east to feed cattle over there. The house of Saud has it’s dirty fingers all in California alfalfa growers crops.

All the gritty details. 1890s water rights and how the Saudis use it with zero incentive to conserve.
