White House press secretary Jen Psaki was forced to cut her planned family vacation short, returning to work Monday as President Joe Biden delivered remarks on Afghanistan.
She'll brief reporters Tuesday afternoon at 1:30, alongside National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, as the crisis continues to unfold.
Psaki had planned to take this week off, with her automated out-of-office reply saying she would return on August 22, when reporters tried asking her questions about Afghanistan over the weekend. The Washington Post reported that Psaki had returned to the White House Monday to help manage the Afghanistan situation.
The Post reported that the mood inside the White House was 'grim.'
Biden was originally supposed to stay at Camp David through Wednesday, according to a schedule released by the White House Friday.

I thought I read Biden returned to the White House yesterday.

Joe Biden didn't need to travel to the White House to give a stupid speech yesterday. He's just as useless in Camp David or on a garbage scow off the Atlantic coast as he is in the White House.
This is all about the Biden team scrambling to make it look like they're actually "doing something" in the face of alarming poll numbers that indicate 70% of Americans think Biden has failed in a big way on this one.
