Would he direct the same criticism towards Trump? He was eligble, took advantage of student deferements and a somewhat dubious medical exemption, and as president he sent U.S. troops into combat when it was necessary.
There are a lot of criticisms that can be directed at Biden and his performance concerning Afghanistan. They're all justified. But if Zumwalt is going to criticise him for this then he needs to do the same to other past presidents.
Most people don't say "Not my president" from the beginning of a president's term. For them the phrase is weightier and more significant than it is for people who are always saying that about presidents of the other party. If you are Chicken Little, forever saying that the "Sky is falling" nobody will pay attention to you.
I think any young man at the time would have done whatever he could to get out of going to Vietnam.

Not all folks that were drafted or enlisted were deployed to Viet Nam. Even some that requested duty there were denied. Others volunteered to do multiple tours there.

As bad as Biden is, if he had been elected, he’d be my president. I wouldn’t like it, but that would be a fact. He’s not my president because he wasn’t elected to that office. He was appointed by America’s enemies. President Trump wasn’t sworn in for his second term, so technically he’s not president, either. We currently have no president. President Trump is the closest we have.

My husband attended Avionics school at Keesler AFB 1967-68 and fully expected to go straight to Vietnam upon graduation because he was one of the senior students.
When we got notification of the command assignment a week or so before the APO number, it was PACAF (Pacific Air Command), which included all of Southeast Asia.
Then when the base assignments came out, my husband called me from school with only the APO number. I went over to Family Services (where I volunteered) to look at the APO chart, and it was Hickam AFB Hawaii.
By the time he finished that 3 year assignment, Vietnam was winding down and he was sent to Florida instead.
I wish that were true — Whatever your feelings are about that imbecile in the WH, he is your president, Harris is your VP and Pelosi is your Speaker. In fact, they are also my clowns as much as I dislike them. Too bad. In America, a stolen election is a valid election.
