Biden pushes rapid COVID checks — despite accuracy issues
NY Post ^ | 9/9/21 | Samuel Chamberlain September 9, 2021

President Biden announced Thursday that the federal government will shell out $2 billion to buy almost 300 million rapid tests for COVID-19 – despite the fact that the tests are woefully inaccurate compared to PCR, or polymerase chain reaction, tests.

Biden said the rapid tests would be distributed to community health centers, food banks and schools across the US “so that every American, no matter their income, can access free and convenient tests.”

However, rapid COVID-19 tests — which typically involve a health professional swabbing a person’s nose or throat but also have at-home versions — vary in accuracy depending on the manufacturer and the time when they are taken, with some offering a less than 50 percent chance of a correct diagnosis.

As though the PCR is “accurate”.

It casts a wide net and can’t differentiate Alpha from Delta or any other nasal passage virus.

False negatives and false positives. Equal opportunity inaccurate results.

If they want to test me they will have to find my corpse first.

I’ve got a feeling that someone in the Biden family has stock in the company or companies that produce these inaccurate tests.

must be part of the new script! ABC Australia loves it:

8 Sept updated 9 Sept: ABC Australia: Rapid COVID-19 antigen testing has arrived. When and where will it be used?
By political reporter Tom Lowrey
They are also a lot less reliable than the more expensive and much slower PCR tests we are used to...

There are 28 rapid tests approved for use in Australia, but they are subject to some pretty strict conditions...
There has to be a health practitioner (like a doctor, nurse or paramedic) overseeing the test. That person takes responsibility for the quality and conduct of the test...
There is an explicit ban on self-testing, or home-testing, under the current Australian rules...

The tests sacrifice accuracy for speed. False negatives and false positives are much more likely but that is less of a concern once low levels of transmission are tolerated...

Andrew McKellar from the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) said smaller businesses could not afford to have a medical practitioner on hand to carry out the tests...

The Transport Workers Union also wants more widespread use of rapid tests, calling for them to be provided free to workers like bus drivers, and to passengers and crew at airports...

At least two major banks have rapid-testing programs underway, with Westpac and the Commonwealth Bank both offering tests to some staff.
Westpac is trialling the tests in about a dozen branches in Western Sydney, with swabs taken in-branch by a nurse...

NSW Health is also rolling out rapid testing in areas like Justice Health, some ambulance sites, and its linen service.
Tens of thousands of tests have also been sent into western New South Wales to help contain the outbreak in areas like Dubbo and Wilcannia.
In a statement, NSW Health said it was also working with the construction and food manufacturing industries to roll out testing services.

Living with COVID will eventually mean tickling your tonsils much more often.

CoV testing has been the weakest link in the pandemic. Rapid tests are woefully inaccurate. PCR takes far too long, with results often coming after illness has escalated to pneumonia and beginning of respiratory failure.

People who pay taxes have to get the vaccine? People who cross the Border are not tested and do not have to get the vaccine?

The UK uses them extensively. A positive means you then have to get a PCR test so it’s really used as a pre-test or screening test.

Put on your thinking cap. In the field of modern medicine, why are diagnostic tests performed?

If they want to test me they will have to find my corpse first.

That proposal is fully acceptable to them.

I would prefer to do something a bit more proactive when refusing the tests.

Not an answer.

Is it for me to know or for the prurient interest of the medicos doing them?

MY thinking cap has been firmly in place for a while now. Testing testing testing hasn’t done anything particularly useful, especially when the tests themselves are problematic.
The results we get en masse are pretty useless except for propaganda and manipulation, near as I can tell.

I just don’t know what more testing will actually do.
