Bastardi was talking about this last night. Said if it stays closer to the area below mid texas coast, probably will not be a hurricane. Were it to travel farther north north east into the gulf, it would be one.

From the look of the recent models, it appears it will remain a TS.

Looks like it will rake along the SE TX coastline.

Last night the NHC expected to name Nicholas today. So they did. NHC currently anticipates 65 mph winds near landfall.

Wish it would veer more to the west so we can get some much-needed showers in the Texas Hill Country.

Been living on the gulf coast for the past 35 years. Retirement is coming in just a few years. It’s going to be spent far away from the coast, in a house up on a hill somewhere in central Texas. The gulf coast has been a great place to live, but we’ve lived through enough hurricane seasons and dealt with enough damage.

"...in a house up on a hill somewhere in central Texas."

I've decided that if I had to do it all over again that I'd have stayed in Texas too. Maybe the Wimberly area.

You may well have rain if Nicholas is at the coast between Corpus Christi and Port Lavaca.

Sounds like "Build Back Better" isn't in the cards. I understand completely.

I hope it doesn’t further delay the reopening of Texas and Louisiana gas refineries.

Gas prices have gone up 5-10 cents since Ida.

Good point. Current forecast models predict landfall near Port Lavaca, tracking inland between Austin and Houston. This track should spare most oil production.

I think most of the problem with Ida for the refineries was flooding and electrical restoration (or lack thereof).

While I don’t expect much storm damage (wind, storm surge), further torrential rain and flooding will not be helpful.
