The island of La Palma in the Canaries was hit by an "earthquake swarm," with officials warning magma is building up under the Cumbre Vieja volcanic chain.
Thousands of small earthquakes have hit the Canary island of La Palma in recent days while growing stronger and moving closer to the surface, according to the regional government.
The Spanish island is the home of the Teneguia volcano in the Cumbre Vieja national park.
A team of volcanologists warned that an eruption could be possible in the coming days, according to a report in the El Pais daily on Thursday.
The team noted that magma was seeping into the volcanic chain, raising its peak by some 6 centimeters (2.4 inches).
"What's most likely is that the magma has found a way toward the surface and it is very likely that it will end up reaching it," said Luca D'Auria, the head of the Volcano Monitoring Department at the Canary Islands Volcano Institute (Involcan).

Please send Anderson Cooper to cover the event.
Oh, please, DC!.................
Why are they claiming that the tsunami on the east coast of North America will be 100+ feet high, while at the UK, which is nearer, it will be only a tenth that?
And Don Lemon..................
Shallower near UK?..............
Relieve pressure by blowing holes in the volcano to allow it to drain?
Even at 12 miles inland, it’ll still be too far for me to drive to the beach.
All those folks moving to Florida too. 😱
I am going to miss Charleston, Beaufort, Savannah, St. Augustine.
NYC, and DC, not so much.
The landslide that will supposedly cause this tsunami will fall down the west side of the island. Britain is NE of the island. The wave would be traveling mostly west.
What confuses *me* is that Africa is supposed to get 300ft waves, despite being *behind* the event.
D.C. is more than 12 miles from the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, which itself is sheltered by Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Unfortunately, NYC is not so well protected.
Apparently they way waves move they get knocked out by Portugal/Spain area
I am not certain myself but it may have to do with the topography of the ocean floor. in between La Palma and England, just off the west coast of Spain are a lot of seamounts that are nearly islands that could dissipate the wave energy.
TV evangelist Perry Stone was predicting something like this - a massive tidal wave along the East Coast.
True, but it ain’t called ‘The Swamp’ for nothing!.................
“TV evangelist Perry Stone was predicting something like this - a massive tidal wave along the East Coast.”
That’s where I get all of my information on Volcanology...
“All those folks moving to Florida too.”
Mostly the East Coast of Florida will feel it, where the New Yorkers live. The West Coast is people from the Midwest, and the panhandle is typical Southern Conservatives.
Its in the land shadow of spain
That is a nifty map!
Thanks!
