In response to the Biden administration’s new policy of limiting shipments of monoclonal antibody treatments to certain states that have leaned heavily on the treatment, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said his state will circumvent the policy and just buy more treatments.
Speaking with reporters on Thursday, DeSantis said he had a call with GlaxoSmithKline executives this week and is confident Florida will be able to order monoclonal antibody treatments directly from the company. Previously, Florida had used monoclonal antibody treatments from Regeneron, which had a direct purchasing agreement with the federal government.
“I had a call yesterday with GlaxoSmithKline executives about their monoclonal antibody [product] sutrovimab,” said the governor, adding that sutrovimab showed great promise during clinical trials. DeSantis added:
The clinical data on that was even better than the clinical data on Regeneron – 85% reduction in hospitalizations. It is not approved for subcutaneous injections, so if we get it, and we use it at our sites, we have to expand the amount of IV treatments that are available, which we are going to be willing to do.
Since GlaxoSmithKline has no purchasing agreement with the federal government, DeSantis said that Florida could use their product sutrovimab to fill any shortages.
“They do not have a direct purchase agreement with the federal government, said DeSantis. “The federal government has bought all the Regeneron. They just upped it for another shipment. We are not able to buy it directly from Regeneron,” he said.

The Pfizer and Moderna were around $35 a dose, if I’m not mistaken.
Why is the government paying for all of this? Means test. If you can afford it, pay for it. If you can’t, then you get it for free. How f*cking hard is that?
Then again, there’s plenty of evidence that $3 worth of decades old drugs can help to, but never mind.
Crazy how dependent on government this whole thing has made the people, even many on here. Get the shot, damnitt. It’s free....yeah, not so much. Almost as if the government is admitting to playing a role in the virus’s development or something.
Pfizer and Moderna aren’t giving that stuff out for free. They have to pay Blackrock and Vanguard their tribute. $30 trillion in debt and it just keeps climbing.
This is what I appreciate and respect about my governor. He didn’t throw up his hands and give up- he was resourceful and determined and found a way around this vile administration.
They want to scare the unvaxed who think if they are infected they can get the treatments.
Things, in general, are so far gone in this country that there is really no way back to the nation most of us grew up in.

All DeSantis has to do is have a townhall in any of the districts where the Dem’s do the representation and invite the legislators. Have them answer to their constituents...are you going to show allegiance to the CornPop and the Party or are you going to represent the people the voted for you? Let them look their constituents in the eye either join DeSantis in challenging and condemning CornPop or are they going to disregard the safety and well being of their voters to tow the party line?
Wouldn’t that be a great tv ad....While your Republican Governor did everything he could and still does, to keep Florida open, keep it’s economy going, keep folks working and earning, while also making available treatments for covid, your Democratic Rep’s in DC and Tallahassee are more concerned with being loyal to CornPop than they are representing the people of Florida.
Would be kind of hard to challenge and deflect that. Especially if none of them have gotten vocal. You either called out CornPop for his vindictiveness or you didn’t.
Simple solution or at least an option: Start buying, selling and/or distributing ZIVERDO Packs. Worked for India. Less than $3 for the whole shebang. Worth a try in a pinch.
