The memories of surviving Hurricane Maria still haunt people in Puerto Rico, four years after the storm wreaked havoc on the U.S. territory on Sept. 20, 2017.

...Hurricane Maria left $90 billion in damages and Congress allocated at least $63 billion for disaster relief and recovery operations. Four years later, about 71 percent of those funds have not reached communities on the island archipelago. Puerto Rico has received about $18 billion, according to FEMA's Recovery Support Function Leadership Group....

...The Fiscal Oversight and Management Board overseeing Puerto Rico’s finances has said the remaining bulk of the reconstruction aid is scheduled to be disbursed after fiscal year 2025...

2017 - 2025. If 71% hasn't been spent, what's the interest on 3/4 of 90 billion? What's the rate of graft and missing funds when 'infrastructure' investments run over 10 years post disaster? And is is fake 'human infrastructure' or actual physical infrastructure that money is being spent on first?

Well according to the article, congress is holding up the funds. And why controls congress, pray tell? Oh, that’s right, the Democrats

interesting that NBC, CNN and now this just popped up AP feed..
all at the same time..

almost like it was coordinated..

prepare for the calls for more aid to Haiti.....which will pass to “fox the border problem”

The Associated Press
@AP
Hundreds of Haitians deported by the U.S. in recent days left their homeland almost a decade ago. They’re now returning to a nation that is even more violent, impoverished and politically unstable than when they left.

Welfare island. Make it a penal colony. Plenty of government jobs. Win-win.

Too bad occasional-kotex didn’t use that $30,000 for the ticket to help rebuild her abuela’s home rather than waste it on an evening in NYC showcasing the dress made by a tax criminal...

PR was a backwater when it was a Spanish colony - the Spaniards gave incentives to any Catholic European to settle and few came. The name “Rich Port” was itself a bit of an unintentional sarcastic joke, and Havana had the better harbor (and Cuba the better economy).

Full disclosure: the woman who would have been my mother in law (she died in March) was from Morovis. I enjoy visiting the island but am under no illusions that it is a political and economic basket case.
