New Report: More Americans Are Choosing Charter Schools Over Failing Government Schools

Further, as the report notes, “Nearly 240,000 new students enrolled in these innovative, student-centered public schools, despite a sharp decrease in overall public school enrollment during the same period. Of the 42 states evaluated, 39 experienced charter school enrollment increases, while only three saw modest decreases. By comparison, district school enrollment dropped precipitously in every state.”

So, during the ill-fated 2020-21 school year, a mass exodus occurred at public schools while charter schools experienced their highest growth rate in years.

There are several reasons for this shift, yet one cannot dismiss the double whammy that COVID-19 and critical race theory played in this shift.

First, throughout the pandemic, most government-run schools shut down in-person learning, despite ample evidence that COVID-19 poses little threat to young people. What’s more, data show that children are highly unlikely to spread COVID-19, making the mass shut downs totally pointless.

Without a doubt, millions of parents realized that government-run schools did everything they could to avoid offering in-person learning, while at the same time the vast majority of private and charter schools remained open for in-person learning the entire time.

Moreover, public teacher unions lobbied the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on COVID-19 guidance, pressuring the CDC to comply with its un-scientific, nakedly political agenda.

Second, as government-run schools remained closed for in-person learning for months, they also decided to introduce critical race theory (CRT) into the curriculum.

Ironically, due to the fact that in-person learning was replaced with online classes at the vast majority of public schools, parents became aware of the radical ideology being pushed in government-run schools.

The hyper focus on CRT and its close cousins (The New York Times’ 1619 Project and the Zinn Education Project) was definitely an eye-opener for parents throughout America.

As polls show, CRT is not popular with parents. And it should not be, considering that it is a direct rebuke of Martin Luther King’s wish for America to be a place where people are judged upon the content of their character, not the color of their skin.

Thankfully, most Americans understand that CRT and its offshoots are the epitome of racism, in which students are brainwashed into believing Marxian notions of oppressed v. oppressors. And, they want nothing to do with it, pulling their kids from indoctrination factories wherein CRT is pushed while math, science, reading, and writing take a backseat.

For several years, school choice has been a back-burner issue. However, this is changing rapidly.

Polls show that Americans, especially black and Hispanic parents, are more receptive than ever to school choice. More and more, parents desire the power to determine where and how their children are educated. The behavior of public teacher unions, government school administrators, and too many teachers over the past 18 months has only accelerated the push by parents to ensure that they have the ability to choose which school their child attends.

As a former public high school teacher who witnessed the early stages of classroom indoctrination (I taught well before CRT became mainstream), I am overjoyed that parents are becoming aware of the fact that government-run schools have become cesspools of corruption.

As they say, you must first become aware of the problem, before you can solve it.

Arizona’s tax laws and public school structure have created a system where charter schools are thriving and multiplying. They provide for a variety of needs (from the Great Heart Western Civ.-centric schools to the remedial education available to those on the margins) and facilities/resources (very local, but not much more than a store front to full-fledged sports and extra-curriculars).

They are still public schools, and to some degree compete with private and parochial schools. Fortunately, the AZ tax structure is friendly to private schools as well, so the whole system is a net gain.

...They are still public schools...

Deserves some amplification.

My husband is a teacher at a great hearts academy in north Phoenix-they we’re on line only the 1 quarter between March and June of 2020. I highly recommend the Great Hearts academy’s as they are far above the public schools for learning and instruction.

Public schools today are not education and learning centers, they are propaganda centers. One thing the “pandemic” did was awaken many parents to that exact fact and made the aware of exactly what was being taught by so called teachers.

These same spineless parents and careless taxpayers who--neglecting oversight of its local indoctrination methodology--have not maintained the proficiency of its teachers and public school administrators, will go on to spoil the charter school concept.

I'm saying this because I have followed the impact of money-hungry power-seeking educrats that cement themselves into the county, state, federal, and university school-manipulating structures, at least since my enrollment in the Syracuse University School of Education in 1956.

It has been said "Follow the money trail!" but this is simply a misdirection of one's attention, leading to an answerless cul-de-sac. Now, even the corporate heights are more moved by it than by fiducial profiting imperatives.

The true trail is always to follow the power-trail, the social dominance of which the single most damaging proponent has been John Dewey (click here), Marxist (click here) and antichristian educational philosopher (click here), Humanist Manifesto cosigner (click here); who stood on the shoulders of Horace Mann (click here), educational progressivist.

It is Saul Alinsky (click here), community organizer and fiery anarchist, of whom the NEA now claims as a chief theorist and motivator (click here) of its hegemony over public education, over every local, vocal concerned parental group and school-tax-payer.

Against this array, you think a charter-school implementation will survive? Mainly of the Obamacist Clintonesque Bidenites obstructionists? Antifascistas? BeLiMinators?

I think not. It is against the traditional disciplinarian warrior-trainers that these couch potatoes and their Marxist devourers have swamped; of whom the well-known Phi Beta Kappan Father of the U. S. (Nuclear) Navy Hyman G. Rickover (click here) were arrayed in the 1950s and -60s, a community of which the National Education Association of true professionals, not the current manifestation encouched in knowledge-deficient imitators of ant-hill larvae tenders governed by a local NEA Queen (male or female) administrators.

This eschatological social aura was prophesied bu The Christ, a few days by his execution at the will of thge teachers and religionistas of His Day and Hour"

"And many false prophets(teachers) shall rise, and shall deceive (the)many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love(agapay) of many shall wax cold" (Matthew 24:11-12 AV; interpretive superscripts added)
Are there now many false prophet-teachers of both religious and irreligious kinds?

Yes.

Is there now a great, tolerated, effulgence of total human depravity?

Yes.

Has the sovereign preference of the interests of others above one's own failed abysmally?

Yes.

Is this true of "The Many"--the general population--in the New Testament Greek, the hoi polloi?

Yes.

Is the First Stage of the Second Coming of The Christ on the imminent horizon?

Evaluate, my FRiends! Follow the dynamic, the power-grabbing influence--not the money--eh?

We send our children to private schools mostly to protect them from stories about two daddies.

The solemn duty of every parent is to raise their children.

That duty includes keeping those children as far away from government indoctrination centers as possible.

Get your kids out.
