A federal appeals court ruled Monday a COVID vaccine mandate for New York City teachers and other public school workers can go into effect.
A three-judge panel lifted a temporary ban on the mandate that was originally set to take effect Monday.
“Federal appeals exhausted. Done. The mandate moves forward,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
The United Federation of Teachers said 3% of teachers (about 3,400) remain unvaccinated.
School workers now have until 5 p.m. Friday to get their first dose, or risk losing their jobs, de Blasio said.
“If you have not gotten that first dose by Friday 5:00, we will assume you are not coming to work on Monday, and you will not be paid starting Monday, and we will fill your role with a substitute or an alternative employee,” de Blasio said.
Not everyone thinks the court’s decision is a done deal. Lawyers representing teachers who sued to blocked the mandate said they will petition the U.S. Supreme Court.
Staten Island special education teacher Rachel Maniscalco is one of the teachers suing the Department of Education in federal court. She blasted the mayor.
“It’s almost as though the dictator is just feeling slighted and trying to do everything in his power to ruin the people who just don’t agree with him,”

New York city kids who value the school employees at those
institutions should walk out.
Let DeBall-less go sit in the empty seats.
15k. I would like to see that. People standing for what’s right and all.
Did DeBlasio flunk civics? The usual criterion for injunctive relief is to preserve the status quo, which this is not doing.
The year was 2020. The trend was annoying nurses dancing on TikTok. The narrative was how these nurses were heroes risking their lives to save people from the Chinese virus even though it was racist to call it the Chinese virus.
But that was then. This is now. And now, if you’re unwilling to get poked with the Fauci Ouchie, you’re probably the grim reaper. Even if you work in healthcare as a nurse. New York Governor Hochul, who replaced sex pervert Andrew Cuomo, not to be confused with his dumber brother Chris, announced that effective tonight at midnight, if nurses and hospital staff were unvaccinated, they were out.
Yeah, I agree.
Thanks for the link.
Time for the local citizens to go on strike until DeBall-less
gets the message.
We have to stand together, or they are going to pick us off
one by one. (or 10,000 by 10,000)
Ha ha Union goons. Suck it!
RE: Ha ha Union goons. Suck it!
I actually root for the unions on this issue ( strange but true ). The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
We will agree to disagree. Have little sympathy for them. The teachers have pushed so much pain on the taxpayer and their children. If they hate being hoisted on their own statist petard the Wal Mart across the river in Secaucus is hiring.
I’m with cops and firefighters followed by health care frontline (apart from the overeducated, socialist-loving doctors). Gonna take more than this for the average teacher to wake the hell up - but those who do will also have my support.
Really? 97% said yes? I know it's NYC, but 97% seems a little hard to believe.
When my company mandated vaccines by May 24th, they had 98% compliance.
