For holiday parties, CDC says using a 'window fan' is advisable

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released recommendations Saturday for the upcoming holiday season, including the idea of using a window fan to keep air at an indoor party as fresh as possible.

The CDC appears to be suggesting that circulating air indoors can ward off the airborne coronavirus, or at least reduce its chances of spreading during home gatherings.

"If celebrating indoors, bring in fresh air by opening windows and doors, if possible," its holiday celebrations guidance states. "You can use a window fan in one of the open windows to blow air out of the window. This will pull fresh air in through the other open windows."

That said, even if the worst of summer's pandemic wave might have passed, the CDC would much rather Americans not gather indoors with loved ones or visitors this winter.

It recommends getting together only with members of a household, meeting remote family and friends virtually or, if necessary, "Have an outdoor celebration with everyone at least 6 feet apart."

Those who have to venture to events should be vaccinated, the CDC said. And they should wear masks in communities with high rates of Covid-19 spread or when the vaccination status of others is unknown, even if parties are outdoors, the CDC said.

The agency said unvaccinated people should not travel.

A window wide open during the depth of the heating season. Right. Real energy-efficient if you’re in Minnesoter or Michigan or Maine. Guy must think we all live in south Texas.

The science is beginning to admit that COVID cannot survive when air particulates are evaporated.

Covid doesn’t last on dry surfaces.

I remember advice from my grandmother... fresh air and sunshine (ie Vitamin D) will keep you healthy.... and eat up all your vegetables!

All these protective measures only tells me that they believe the vaccine is useless. You don’t see them acting this way towards polio, right? Polio is caused by a virus as is measles, rubella, mumps, on and on and on. But Covid, which supposedly has a vaccine, we must take all these precautions against. Yeah, OK.

I work in a building that has level 2 labs with positive ventilation through sophisticated filters. Have to be carefull opening the doors as they will fly in due to the suction created. I can see a window fan helping reduce the viral load inside a room. But not eliminating an aerosol virus. But then nether do masks or apparently the vaccine either.

Grandmothers knew more about real “science” back then, than all the woke POSs we have running around now put together.
We hear NOTHING regarding acquired immunity for those of us that survived this communist crap. Why? Well, because it’s free!!!!

This is the first science based recommendation the CDC has made. Increasing ventilation is basically the only thing that controlled studies have shown reduces the rate of infection indoors for an airborne respiratory virus. Installing high capacity, high throughput HVAC in all businesses would do FAR more good than all the masking and social distancing, and if we ever had a real pandemic would be the way to be prepared.

Was it Gerald Ford or Jimmy Carter who wanted everybody to wear a sweater because of their energy crisis? The 70’s are back! Polyester and Disco must be right behind.

I have UV sterilization for my well water. I would think the same could easily be done for ventilation. Passive temperature monitoring and other actual “infrastructure” changes could be made that would prepare better for the next Chinese bioweapon more than what we are doing.

It would actually be cheaper to light a pile of dollar bills on fire to keep warm than to pay for the exorbitant natural gas to heat a home.

Covid is outside too. I know this because people walking alone down the sidewalks have useless masks on.

These suggestions come from one department in the CDC; the “let’s see what we can get these idiots to believe today” department. They’ve been particularly active lately. They haven’t had this much fun since they came up with telling people to wear 3 masks.

I know…. It really cracks me up. Or the person alone in their car fully masked. So many sheep.

“Grandmothers knew more about real “science” back then”

and more. I vividly took it t heart one of her “lessons” that food is best served and tastes best with family and friends. Meaning you can have lunch at the best restaurant in the world yet your company are people you dislike, it wont taste good. That’s why I learned my lessons with “business lunches”. Business and lunch DONT mix at all.

Its probably the most sensible and practical thing the CDC has said in a long time.
