Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot slammed Cook County’s State Attorney Kim Foxx for not bringing charges in a deadly West Side shooting – and Foxx is hitting back.
One person was killed and several others injured on Friday when a shootout broke out among alleged gang members in the Austin neighborhood that was caught on police cameras – but Foxx didn’t charge five suspects saying there was insufficient evidence.
Lightfoot said on Monday she and lawmakers sent a letter to Foxx asking to reconsider fearing a lack of accountability could send the city into chaos, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
“It’s complicated, for sure, but we really urge the state’s attorney herself to get involved, look at the evidence,” Lightfoot, a former federal prosecutor, said. “And I believe that there are charges that can be brought at a minimum against the individuals who initiated the gunfire. We can’t live in a world where there’s no accountability.”
Foxx shot back at Lightfoot at a press conference on Tuesday, saying police agreed with her assessment after a lack of cooperation from witnesses.
“I’m mortified by what happened yesterday, particularly because the mayor as a former prosecutor, knows that what she did yesterday was inappropriate,” Foxx said.
But as Foxx stood her ground, Lightfoot doubled down – and said she is asking the US Attorney’s Office in Chicago to get investigate whether federal charges can be filed.
“I think what people want to know is how is it possible, given what we saw, that we’ve all seen on videotape, with officers on the scene, that not a single person has been charged,” CBS Chicago reported.
Those involved could have been charged with crimes ranging from disturbing the peace all the way up to attempted murder to “send a message,” Lightfoot said.

Is Foxx elected or appointed?
Gee, maybe Felon In Possession of a Weapon might be appropriate here.
That is, if we had an FBI that was interested in prosecuting stuff like this.
L
Elected, and with a large financial chest from Soros.
God forgive me for this but if ever the world needs a real James Bond to kill a super villain and dismantle his network, now is the time
Chicago used to be one of my favorite cities. It’s dead to me now.
Well they probably would but they are too busy investigating parent who attend school board meetings.
All the classic American cities are dead to us.
ChIraq has different rulz.
BiXiden knows.
It’s all good.
For God’s sake don't even mention The Federal Bureau of Instigation. If they get involved, all they will look for will be a white MAGA Republican to charge. Cheesh.
Soros had Foxx elected to NOT prosecute people.
Oh, to persecute Conservatives.
There ya go: "Lack of cooperation from witnesses." The endless inner-city violence across the nation has been going on for many decades with no end in sight and continues getting worse. The Democrat Party Cabal (DPC) constantly railed about one black man killed by a white police officer in 2020, as part of the plan to steal the election. But the DPC always religiously ignores the 7,000 black people killed annually by other black people. The DPC also squelches the reporting of any crime when the culprit is black. Bottom line: The problem can't be solved unless you first acknowledge the problem exists and report on it. And the root causes are the lack of a proper family structure in those crime-ridden neighborhoods, the extreme lack of respect for education, teachers, and schools, among many other reasons. But instead, the DPC still crazily claims the inner-city crime problem ultimately should be blamed on ... slavery and modern-day "systemic racism."
And Lightfoot is now suddenly worried about potential "chaos" in Chicago's inner-city? Um, it's way past "chaos" at this point, Ms. Lightfoot. Wake up!
Lori and Kim…….wow.
.
Chicago used to be one of my favorite cities. It’s dead to me now.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I have lived in Illinois since 1969, about 170 miles from Chicongo. In the summer of ‘70, I received, in the mail, a $100 parking ticket from the city of Chicongo. Never having been near the place, I ignored it.
After a couple of days it was in the papers that Chicongo had mailed thousands of them randomly, all over the state, many people just paid them. I’ve been here 52 years now and have never been to Chicongo, never will either.
“ Crimesha “ versus “Groot “. Way to go city of big shoulders.
The chaos the blacks cause is also their fault-—
]They refuse to cooperate with law enforcement in finding & prosecuting troublemakers.
Re “It (Chicago) is dead to me”.
So are a lot of its’ decent citizens, esp. young children!!!
