GOP gubernatorial candidate Geoff Diehl has landed a big deal endorsement.
Former President Donald Trump is throwing his support behind the conservative candidate in a race where rivals are still lining up and Gov. Charlie Baker has yet to declare.
“Baker is bad on crime, disrespects our police, does nothing for our Veterans, has totally botched the Vaccination rollout, presided over the collapse of the MBTA, and has seen crime go to record levels,” Trump said in his endorsement Tuesday night.
Diehl has branded himself as a conservative counterweight in a race where most of the other candidates swing far to the left.
Baker has yet to announce if he will seek re-election to a third term — repeatedly saying he is in discussions with his family. The moderate, however, remains one of the most popular governors in the nation.
But he’s never been on Trump’s invitation list.
“Geoff Diehl of Massachusetts looks very much forward to his run against ‘RINO’ Governor Charlie Baker, who has done nothing for the Republican Party and has driven Massachusetts energy costs into, by far, the highest in the Nation,” Trump said from his “Save America PAC” email address.
He compared Baker to “AOC” — New York “Squad” member U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — when it comes to “green climate.”

Everyone knows Trump is the leader.
Everyone knows Trump is the leader in exile. Like Charles de Gaulle
I’d prefer Diehl to Baker but have to
acknowledge one thing Diehl and Trump have in common are they are former Democrats...But still...
>>Diehl registered to vote as a Democrat in 1996 and supported various Democratic politicians throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, including Massachusetts Attorney General Tom Reilly and Vice President Joe Biden before later registering as a Republican. (wiki)

Tall Deval has got to go.
Ugh.
Diehl has zero chance of winning.
Jim Lyons is a Trump guy and head of the Republican party here. And they’ve been trying to remove him to no avail. We’ll see what happens at the convention next summer.
Our primaries are very late, in September, so a lot of decisions are made at the convention.
I doubt Charlie Baker will run again. I think he wants to, because he’s a petty tyrant and likes the power, but he knows he likely won’t get through a primary.
I’ve seen Geoff Diehl at protest rallies at the State House I’ve attended, so he is a conservative. But he didn’t put up much of a fight against Warren.
Frankly, I expected Baker to seek reelection to a 3rd term as a Demonrat.
I’d say IND.
Meanwhile...
