New York and three other states signed a pact this week to share information on guns used in crimes.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and three other Democrats—Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, and New Jersey Phil Murphy on Thursday announced the agreement (pdf), which says that “gun violence continues to plague communities” throughout their states and the nation.
Law enforcement agencies being able to share “crime gun data” with agencies in other states “will assist in their efforts to detect and deter gun crime” and investigations into so-called straw purchasers, suspect dealers, firearms traffickers, and other criminals, the pact also states.
Under the agreement, which is set to last five years, the states will transmit all data on guns used in crimes to other states, excepting those designated priority and/or sensitive. The data will be sent via a secure transmission method that was not made public. The parties can only use the data for law enforcement purposes.
The regional effort will help “protect our residents and to end the menace of senseless gun violence in our communities,” Murphy said during a virtual meeting with the other governors. “When we work together as regional partners to enact regional solutions, we’re far better off than if we all go on our own.”
According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, about 85 percent of the guns used in crimes recovered in the state between January and July came from outside the state.

Punish the innocent, reward the guilty.
Time to move...
The folks who got the heck out of Dodge last year are smart.
Hard to not see this coming.
These States still have PDs to collect the data?
Strangely enough, about 85 percent of violent crime in my State is committed by people from outside the State. Maybe we could start tracking the people and do something about them first.
That's code for guns registered to law enforcement guns "lost" from evidence lockers, and guns marked "destroyed" but somehow fell out of the back of the truck on the way to the incinerator. Can't have that data getting out into the open now.
No surprise there and I am not surprised that NH and ME were not part of it.
VT has always been very pro-second amendment but are crazy, liberal greenies for the most part so I wasn’t sure which side they would fall on.
That’s right.

As with the unConstitutional “Northeast Compact” re: COVID response in the spring of 2020 Governor Wolf once again demonstrates a failure to comprehend that the Commonwealth is NOT exclusively aligned to great NYC.
Basically everything from Tuscarora Mountain north and west is Pittsburgh/Ohio/Midwest oriented. South of the mountain (including Philly and the Northeast Metropolitan area) is definitely greater NYC but York, Adams, and Franklin have more in common with Baltimore/Washington than any of the major PA cities.
Hmmm... NY, CT, PA and NJ. Thank goodness I have no burning desire to live and any of those states. Although I have to admit I grew up in northern NJ.
They won’t find many straw purchasers in these states. Getting a CCW is very tough, and the sort of people who would buy guns on behalf of criminals are unlikely to have one.
There are some nice gun collections here in Connecticut, but they are very carefully secured. These guys take shooting and the history of weaponry very seriously.
I’ve got some data for them. Just in case they hadn’t noticed.... When black gangbangers get illegal guns they kill other black people with them... Constantly. On the other hand, legal firearm owners very rarely shoot anyone.
Fascists!
Article I, Section 10, Clause 3:
No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay

“gun violence continues to plague communities”
Love how they never specify which communities and who the majority of the victims and suspects are.
On a side note, it dose t appear that gun violence plague the nation. It plagues Democrat run, majority black, liberal cities.
Hmmm...
This seems to border on the unconstitutional.
The laws on the states’ books are all unique to the states’ legislatures so one states’ “gun crime” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the same crime or punishment in another state. So its an infringement of your rights to coordinate the data with another state to criminalize you.
This is also unfair to the other 46 states - wy don’t they get to see the data?
Why not just make the information public so ALL can see?
The college and ski towns are liberal. There’s of the state is fairly RED.
Vermont had Constitutional Carry.
Vermont is 94% white. Although, it has a really and drug problem and even with that it isn’t that violent.
New Hampshire is 93% white. Less than 2% black.
