We might have a new champion for the best place to live if you want to maximize the amount of government incentives you can get when you buy an electric vehicle. While everyone in the U.S. could be eligible for the federal tax credit worth up to $7500 for a new EV, states and cities have been offering various benefits in addition to the federal credit, and the revived incentive package from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) in California could reduce the price some residents pay for a new or used EV by a serious $9500.

Used car prices are at a premium. I know! Let's drive them higher!

And green energy has destroyed economies and there's fuel shortages. I know! Let's make it worse! Let's demand EV because electricity is in short supply!

So, were I to be stupid enough to live in CA, I could pay taxes to help someone else purchase their E car?

Yes, I know, all of us are helping to support Tesla/etc now.

I really would like to have an e-car in the future, but the concept of our government (composed of possibly the most unhirable and science-illiterate idiots in the multiverse) taking my money to help others purchase cars is so stupid that only the media and eddikashun majors would back it.

So if I go to the auto junkyard and tow out a wreck, I can get $950?

I can do that everyday and twice on Sundays.

If everyone in CA swapped to electric cars and trucks, how much electricity supply would be required to power them?
How much spare capacity does their power grid have?
Oops, it’s already maxed out.

Yeah, that sounds like a great idear. NOT! One thing my Ram 1500 has that the EVs don’t. A friggin awsome sound through the cat back Borla exhaust. I guess they could include an audio feature with some 15’subs in the back of the EV.

There’s big demand for used cars in other states right now. IT would be funny to see california go full EV. They would be in the dark in no time. They can’t power what they have now.

In an unrelated story, rolling blackouts are projected in the Bay area.

a ridiculous policy in a state where its regulators and other politicians have nearly destroyed the electrical supply and distribution systems

while its corrupt regulators have hiked utility rates sky-high...increasing one’s dependency on Californication’s electrical system is exactly the wrong approach for anybody stupid enough to (or trapped into) still live there

with the astronomically high cost of electricity and all of the blackouts (check the media and you’ll see that the California electrical people are planning yet another blackout TODAY)

a person would have to be crazy to buy an EV in Californication

When I see a program like this the first thing I think of is POLITICAL SLUSH FUND. It is for a “good cause” and will be well staffed to administered it but with very little oversight on who gets the money (and poor record keeping that will prevent an honest audit to be done with the program ends).

If they are doing it like they were for C for C, you had to have the title in your name for some period before the vehicle was eligible.

Yes, but make sure there's no dead body in the trunk.

Just what the grid needs, way higher peak demand.
One of the biggest problems is these shitbirds don’t realize they’re the problem and just move and destroy the next place.
Liberals are locusts.

We live in a bribery world.

Long ago this type of thing was known as 3 card monte, a flim-flam, a shell game, etc.

If I wanted the product I would have already bought it. If you are willing to throw away $10k to get me to buy it, there must be a catch.

My truck and car serve us very well, and both are paid for. I’ll just keep them.

I enjoy driving for Doordash to supplement my retirement income. My wonderful old Prius is finally reaching the end of the road (ahem), and I am shocked at used car prices. I won’t use my good Camry, but hate to spend the prices for the used cars. I mean...JUST WOW!!!!!
