A third party to impose some pain on the Trumpified GOP
msn.com ^ | 10/12/21 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 10/12/2021 9:44:28 AM PDT by cotton1706

I have always been — and remain — a skeptic of third parties, because they punish the party they have the most in common with. The historian Richard Hofstadter famously quipped that “Third parties are like bees: once they have stung, they die.”

But in this scenario, that’s a feature, not a bug. The point is to cause the GOP some pain for its descent into asininity. Giving conservatives turned off by both the Democrats and the Trumpified GOP a way to vote their conscience in the general election would put political pressure on Republican candidates to curtail their Trump sycophancy. It would also serve to remind the GOP that if you abandon conservative principles, conservatives might abandon you.

Golly gee, like this hasn't been done before.

Like John Anderson trying to stop Reagan in 1980. Ever hear of Ross Perot? or Evan McMullan?

The old "get a third person on the November ballot if somebody we didn't like gets the Republican nomination" gambit.

He probably thinks he came up with this idea all by himself and all his friends at The Bulwark will think him brilliant.

Oh and Jonah, about your last line there "it would also serve to remind the GOP that if you abandon conservative principles, conservatives might abandon you," that's exactly what's happened.

This guy is either a moron or he's deliberately deceiving the reader about what's going on.

There's no reason to punish the GOP for being "Trumpified."

The GOP became "Trumpified" because it failed to do its damn job in the first place.

Secure borders. Bringing manufacturing back to the US to create jobs for American workers. Standing up to China in trade negotiations. Making other countries pay their share of NATO. Not involving ourselves in foreign wars. What’s the “Trumpified” part this POS Goldberg doesn’t like?

Jonah Goldberg has had bee in his bonnet about Trump for the last 6 years. He just hates the guy and is truly blinded by the hatred. He even parted ways with National Review because even they couldn’t get onboard with his Captain Ahab-like obsession with hating Trump.

Stick a sock in it, Jonah. You’re playing parlor games while the communists are playing for keeps.

************

How could a third party have anything in common with a party that stands for nothing?

The only reason political parties still exist is to give voters the illusion of choice.

The letter after the name means jack anymore.

A pol is either loyal to our former republic or to Deep State.

This third party works for Deep State.

Jonah can’t get over the dumb idiots who support Trump..

He can’t see what living under Trump is, compared to living under a democrat. What is his problem? jealousy.. blind to we the people because he is an elite.. whatever it is... I wish we had weekly flights to that island where they all should live.

1 “Giving conservatives turned off by both the Democrats and the Trumpified GOP a way to vote their conscience in the general election would put political pressure on Republican candidates to curtail their Trump sycophancy.

2 It would also serve to remind the GOP that if you abandon conservative principles, conservatives might abandon you.”

Those two things are mutually exclusive.

Exactly. If any party is vulnerable for 3rd party consumption it’s the democrats. Their turn leftward and the media’s somewhat successful campaign to paint conservatives as “far right” means there are groups left out of the old dog democrats ripe for the picking.

This dimwitted slug is only where he is because of his father’s position, probably with intel links even before young Jonah signed on for the CIA-linked National Review. Of course, he’s been with the China-paid-off AEI for years since. Hangs around with the other cretins on his pathetic rag-site and traitor Ben Sasse.

A third party to impose some pain on the Trumpified GOP

We are on the verge of death from the Nazis taking over, and this stupid bitch wants to play games?

Clearly this fool doesn't grasp the gravity of what we are now facing. I dare say if he realized he was contemplating suicide to make his infantile point, he would think better of it, but clearly he does not see what will happen with further control by the Nazi party. (Democrats are Nazis.)

If anything, the Dimms should really worry about the third-party movement that Andrew Yang is proposing. I do believe that there are many traditional Democrats who are turned off by the wicked left turn of their party. Clowns like this reporters have a blind spot to this because they’re part of the leftward tilt.
