Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, the outspoken Marine officer who made viral videos aimed at senior military leaders during the final days of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, will plead guilty to several charges in hopes of securing a more favorable discharge.
"Our hope is for him to get a letter of reprimand, and no more," said Tim Parlatore, one of Scheller's attorneys.
The court-martial for Scheller is scheduled for Thursday at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where the outspoken Marine will face charges such as disrespecting a superior officer, willfully disobeying a superior commissioned officer and dereliction in the performance of duties.
Parlatore told the Washington Post that the specifics of Scheller's potential pretrial agreement are "still up in the air" but noted the Marine was willing to take responsibility for his own actions, as he had demanded of his superiors.
Scheller initially went viral for questioning the leadership of senior military officials during the chaotic final days of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, especially the events that led up to 13 U.S. troops being killed in a suicide bombing.
Scheller's attorneys are hoping he can avoid jail time and secure a favorable discharge.
"Our hope is for him to get a letter of reprimand, and no more," Parlatore said.
Scheller is a 17-year veteran of the infantry and served tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan, an experience that led to his calls for accountability from senior military officials.
"People are upset because their senior leaders let them down, and none of them are raising their hands and accepting accountability or saying, ‘We messed this up,’ " Scheller said in one of his viral videos.

what a pilemof steaming horse ####
This has become a very high profile case and he's been a good Marine, he deserves an honorable discharge and benefits.
I admit I was correct.
Furthermore, I did roller skate to blondies Heart of Glass when I was 12.
Do they teach revenge at the service academies? Isn’t revenge conduct unbecoming of an officer?
When you put it like that I’m reminded of explaining the song on 8 tracks that got split always sucked.
He did more than just speak out. He was ordered to stop. And he kept going. And going and going... Long after he made his point. He never would have been charged if he just followed the order to stop. And he already made his point. His initial comment already went viral.
Fascism.
He already ran in 1924 and lost then too.
Damn! That Calvin Coolidge had long legs! (reading a book about him right now...:)
He’s a liberal who couldn’t stand Trump. I really don’t GAF about his plight. He’s obviously not that bright if he can’t see the difference between Trump and the average Democrat candidate, let alone Joke™️.
I am grateful that he spoke out, and I appreciate that. He should have kept his mouth shut about the political leader of the people that gave money and bailed him out, though.
I think he was under a teeny bit of stress when he wrote that statement of his, and I will be less harsh than I might have been. People generally shouldn’t be making public statements in that pressure cooker of a situation.
I grew up in a military family and served myself...I fully understand the chain of command and am a lifelong adherent to the concept, it has served me well outside the military.
But there is a moral underpinning that people must follow, and LtCol Scheller did the right thing speaking out against that travesty.
Looks like he will pay the price, and burned some of his bridges in the process.
>> He’s a liberal who couldn’t stand Trump.
I guess he voted for Biden. And Biden instigated the Afghanistan disaster.
Career over, definitely.
If it's okay for a Lt. Col. to do that, then it's okay for PFC's and LCpls. to do the same thing if their Captain, Lt., Gunny, or 1st. Sgt. pisses them off. You simply cannot run a military that way. Even the Soviets abandoned that kind of egalitarian approach when they realized how it undermined discipline.
He’s getting a Special Court Martial.
“He was ordered to stop. And he kept going.”
He did worse than that, he was posting on social media thus spreading his comments over numerous platforms. By going on such a public format, his message was spread like wild fires.
If he had not done that, and was discovered in a few papers under the control of the MSM, they would have censured him and asked him to resign his commission or face a court martial probably separating him under general discharge circumstances at the worst. But going that public will cost him.

“He’s getting a Special Court Martial.”
Special courts-martials have jurisdiction to try persons subject to this chapter for any noncapital offense made punishable by this chapter and, under such regulations as the President may prescribe, for capital offenses. Special courts-martial may, under such limitations as the President may prescribe, adjudge any punishment not forbidden by this chapter except death, dishonorable discharge, dismissal, confinement for more than one year, hard labor without confinement for more than three months, forfeiture of pay exceeding two-thirds pay per month, or forfeiture of pay for more than one year.
They’re actually giving him an out as they cannot give him a dishonorable. I’m guessing general and allow him to retire.
