Chris Wallace on Colin Powell: He was 'very protective' of his reputation

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace on Monday remembered the late former Secretary of State Colin Powell and his controversial speech before the United Nations in 2003 about weapons of mass destruction before the Iraq War began.

"I think the low light of his career was in 2003, when he addressed the United Nations and made the case that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. He didn't want to make that speech," Wallace said during Fox's coverage of Powell's death. "He took a lot of pressure from people in the Bush 43 white house including vice president Cheney who was reported to have said 'look you got high approval ratings, you can use a few of those points to sell the war.' He was very skeptical of the case and actually went out to the C.I.A. and was briefed on it and asked questions and was not thrilled about it but got given order by his boss President Bush and Vice President Cheney and spoke before the U.N. and of course most of what he said about Saddam Hussein having chemical and biological weapons turned out not to be true."

His reputation as a political general rather than a military one?

Powell could have resigned rather than follow the order — I mean assuming that what Chris Wallace is alleging actually happened. With the Wallaces’ no never can tell.

For the umpteenth time, Saddam did have WMD's. I'm not saying we should have gone to war in Iraq. I'm saying Saddam himself acknowledged he still had holdover WMD's. In fact, post-Saddam Canada bought a bunch of uranium from Iraq.

The thing I don't like about the repeated lie of "no WMD's in Iraq" is that it's used to tie our hands in the present and future when dealing with nations like Iran building nukes.

If he had his doubts about WMD he should not have made that speech. Saying he was wrong didn’t help him. It just made his colleagues look bad. All intelligence agencies world wide agreed their existence. They were either lying or Saddam had plenty of time to hide them. Think deep state. Was Powell part of it then? Trump certainly wasn’t.

Deriving my sentiments from the words of John 'Cactus Jack' Garner: “Colon Bowel wasn't worth a bucket of warm spit.”

Yes, Colin Powell was very protective of his reputation.

He didn’t want anyone to know that Powell’s chief deputy, the man who really leaked Plame’s identity, Richard Armitage, told him that he was the one who had done it.

Armitage and Powell kept silent while Fitzgerald prosecuted Scooter Libby for what Fitzgerald knew Armitage had done—and knew even before the Fitzgerald investigation began yet kept it to himself as well.

An orchestrated smear on an innocent man to get a scalp.

Powell backed the Kenyanesian Usurpation.
He had no reputation with me after that.

Yes, he could have resigned on principle. The thing that almost never happens in American politics — which speaks volumes. But the country was gung-ho for war, and Powell didn’t want to be on the losing side. He wanted to remain relevant, a player, and so he made his choice. Had the chance to be a hero and save his country from a devastating folly, but he chose to embrace the lie because he perceived signing on to be in his interest. No tears for this odds-figuring swamp creature.

I sit at home an hardly pay attention to the news, I could have told you someone was going to bring up how ashamed Colin Powell was of his UN speech. Even though later the equipment he talked about was found.

First black National Security Advisor under Republican Reagan. first black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs under Republican Bush 31, first black Secretary of State under Republican Bush 32 - and then he declares the Republican party “racist” and endorses Obama for president against veteran McCain - a prime example of how the country is being eaten away by the black block’s blind obedience to the Democrat party - he was an a$$hole.......

If he had any honor and courage, and really believed that there were no WMD, he would have resigned.

He was a power hungry, ass kisser and sold his soul for a pat on the head.

Chi-com 19 isn't all bad.
