One of the pitfalls of working in a profession where your ability to work depends on a license. For a number of reasons physicians tend to be conformists, and this is one of the biggest reasons.
"Conformists" is a generously kind word.
Technically, a license to practice medicine, means just that - you can prescribe what in your best knowledge may work. At least that was the way it was prior to the nationalization of medicine. Now it is all dictated by national guidelines written by pharma companies and the insurance companies along with the AMA enforce it by grading physicians on how well they prescribe the “correct” drug. Physicians need to document what you say to them about your health and then they must respond in the standardized way, even though human beings differ radically in their presentation of health or disease.
