The 41-year-old discussed backlash against his own projects in a lengthy profile with The New Yorker. Miranda received some hate for his musical film “In The Heights” where he was slammed for lacking Afro-Latinx representation.
He explained to the publication that he understands that critics will have opinions about his movies regardless of his high success.
“Once something has success, you’re not the underdog trying to make it happen anymore,” he said. “You have to graduate past the mindset of, like, it’s a miracle I got something on the stage. Because now that is expected of me. And people go, ‘Yeah, but what about this? And what about this?’ And that’s fair! I do that with art I find lacking.” “It’s not cancellation. That’s having opinions,” the “Hamilton” star continued. “So I try to take it in that spirit.”

From the loser who supported his actors disrespecting VP Pence to his face.
Oh well, I sold my Hamilton tickets to some lib idiot and made $5k.

At the time, Trump and Pence were just elected. Didn’t hate Pence until much later. I paid about $400 for prime seats. Got lucky buying them direct instead of resale. Sold for almost $6000. Give or take a few. Can’t remember the exact numbers.
Irrational Trump-hater speaking out against cancel culture?
Now that’s funny.
Funny how they only change their tune after their ox gets gored.
Nice arbitrage.
Nice arbitrage.
It seems his position is that he is allowed to cancel people, but no one is allowed to cancel him.
Miranda does lean left. But I’ve always respected his thoughtfulness, and his tendency to be deferential. He’s a leftist, but not a nasty one. I’m quite on the right, but I could probably be friends with him.
I saw it in Detroit, and LOVED it. I paid $200 per ticket, 6th row center. But if I could have sold them for $6k, I’d have done it in an instant.
I understand that Hamilton takes liberties with history. But I absolutely loved it. It’s an American classic.
"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"
I’ve permanently cancelled him (not really for his politics but for his lack of talent).
yeah - now that the mob is coming for you, cancel culture is bad. you should have spoke up earlier you leftist twit.
... starting with the characters’ ethnicities. :-)
