The busy, post-presidential, life of George H.W. Bush is now documented by the person who saw it up close

President George H-W Bush's longtime chief of staff has now documented Bush's life after his term in the White House. She'll be in Tallahassee to discuss the process Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Jean Becker's personal relationship with George Herbert Walker Bush spanned more than a quarter of a century. Her first encounter was with the then vice-president-running-for-president Bush in 1987. Seven years later, she would become President Bush's chief of staff. She would keep that title until his death in late 2018. It was the post-presidency years, following Bush's loss to Bill Clinton in the 1992 election, that Becker writes about in her book, "The Man I Knew." It was a very busy time, as she recounts.

"He was exhausting, quite frankly. I loved it because it was a lot of fun and very gratifying to be part of his big life and all his projects and passions. But sometimes I just wanted to say, 'Oh, good gosh! I don't think we need to get involved in that.' And he would say, 'Of course we do. Of course, we need to do something!'"

That devotion to giving back should come as no surprise, said Becker, to anyone who remembers it was President George H.W. Bush who began the "Thousand Points of Light" initiative to promote volunteerism and public service.

George H.W. Bush spawned George W. Bush. Joseph Biden spawned Hunter Biden. Both sons became painters. Both families became incredibly wealthy while in government service. The families has many other things in common.

People like bush 1, who didn’t see, or ignored, the importance of the ideological divide in the run-up to today, helped the Left to poison the stew we are in today.

This obliviousness is perfectly illustrated in the allusions to bush 1 and bilk linton being just the best of pals.

Give him his due. He at least had some fight in him. Ask Dukakis. He was in charge when the Soviet Unions’ nuclear arsenal was dismantled. These things go unnoticed when government does it’s job.

Both families became incredibly wealthy while in government service.

The Bushes had money before going into politics. The sons probably got introductions and opportunities because they were president's kids, but it was nothing so naked as the Bidens' influence peddling.

I have many grievances against Bush Sr.

But the five words I'll forever be grateful to him for are: Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas

Who cares about this deep state general. They should dig him up and dump his corpse in the gulf so it doesn’t defile American soil any longer. He did great harm to the republic with his decades of efforts pushing globalism and our loss of sovereignty.

He gave us Clarence Thomas-Souter notwithstanding . W gave us Alito but then wiffed with Roberts.

Think of SCOTUS selections as the top 10 picks in the NFL Draft. Half the ‘can’t’ miss prospects will fail.

I don’t care what he is doing, I’m sure most of it is useless crap just tailored to make him look better.

One day the truth will be told just how wealthy the Bush family became exchanging influence for lucrative oil deals with the Saudis. Makes GW Bush’s decision to invade Iraq and spare the corrupt Saudis after 9/11 understandable. Reagan made a critical mistake after he hurriedly chose George HW Bush after the Ford/Kissinger fiasco.
