Emergency crews in western Canada were still trying to reach some 18,000 people stranded by landslides and struggling to find food among bare grocery store shelves after devastating flooding.
With communities in the region braced for more torrential rain in already inundated areas next week , the premier of British Columbia province declared an emergency and gave an emotional address in a press conference on Thursday.
Appearing to fight back tears, John Horgan said: “The positive I’m going to take out of this is that it had shown British Columbians coming together supporting each other....

I’ve been observing this over the last few days....what a mess indeed. Whole Communities have been evacuated as well.
Where was Justine?
Prayers for the folks there.
time to kill some dam beavers..
This is Trump’s fault, right Canucks?
Watching.
So is the worldwide draught over?
Bad reporting all around there. It sounds like some life or death struggle to find people trapped in a flood. This all happened days ago and the water is already receding in most places. Nobody is trapped or missing except for the occupants of two vehicles in one mudslide. There are big flooding problems in one area because of breached dikes and some of the water came across the border from the Nooksack River which was also temporarily diverted by mudslides. But they are working round the clock to rebuild the breached dike section and then it should slowly get back to normal.
As for the emotional premier nearly in tears, that’s the way he often seems to some people, to us he seemed quite calm, given that he’s just been given a throat cancer diagnosis and has been on limited duty.
People here have this under control. It has nothing to do with snowflakes who live in Vancouver etc etc, they are all safe, warm and dry in their little hutches busily growing carrots and things. This happened to hit some communities that are mostly conservative and I have no doubt they will get things fixed up as fast as anyone else could.
And yes it is bad, the pictures tell the story on that. This is a mountainous region in the direct path of the jet stream, the wonder is that this doesn’t happen more often. The mountains look the way they do for a reason, this is the normal climate. We decided we would try to live here. And it’s up to us to deal with it. I’m sure some pantywaist UK newspaper will be of absolutely no assistance, they should get back to fretting about COVID.
Thank you for these photos! Absolutely devastating. Heartbreaking that they save the cattle but probably haven’t feed for them.
Also we don’t expect much help from Justin Trudeau, that would be a waste of time. We know what to do and we have the resources to do it. By the time he gets off his ass it will all be fixed up. I have no doubt he will be along for the photo op with a few soldiers that they sent. He might even bang a waitress.
YEs, I was watching over the last few days. You know even with all the flooding you can’t help but admire the areas.....the beauty still shows through it all.
