It’s sad to say, but many lawyers engage in all types of courtroom methods to prove the “beef” exists, but when it comes right down to it, they can’t actually produce the “beef.” This might be one of those cases.

This magistrate inadvertently did conservatives a favor. The courts are not going remove a sitting president regardless of how he or she was put into office. So what is the point of litigation? This order will discourage future litigation and the fighting of already lost battles. Lawyers aren’t going to sue when there is a good chance they’re going to get to pay the bill for doing so.

Genrally, nothing said in court filings can be defamatory, this is “as a matter of law” so as to not chill advocacy.
Not that costs are never awarded, that’s fairly common. But to say that the reason is “defamation” without having a lawsuit and judgment to that effect, is prejudicial commentary by the judge.
The judge put the order to pay on hold while the lawyers appeal his dismissal of their lawsuit.
Was there any evidence presented, or did the Judge dismiss the lawsuit on his opinion only?
Can anyone find out who appointed him as a Magistrate Judge? It was 2018, so it would have to be under the Trump administration. I find it odd that there is no mention of who appointed him in any of his bios, c.v. etc.
