Why it matters: The defiant opposition from a broad coalition of senators reflects the real policy concerns they had with Omarova, a Cornell University law professor who's attracted controversy for her academic writings about hemming in big banks.

I despise Axios not just because they always put this "why it matters" into every article as if the audience is too thick to figure the facts out for themselves, which they are because the media never gives a broad collection of the facts. But also because they never really say why it matters in the why it matters section. And they don't say why it matters to whom. To them? To the subject of the article? To the political class? To other journalists? Who the heck reads them anyway?

No offense Runnyfan.

Here's why it matters:

"Omarova, a professor at the Cornell Law School, has said she wants to "end banking as we know it" by requiring bank deposits to be held with the Federal Reserve, rather than private banks. Omarova has also proposed the creation of a federal agency, the National Investment Authority, that would fulfill the goals of the Green New Deal by investing in infrastructure projects. Omarova said one goal of the National Investment Authority would be for oil and gas companies to go "bankrupt" in order to fight climate change."

All your bank accounts at The Fed? Push a button and your money disappears or taken as they choose for social media infractions?

No thanks.
