He might have a tolerance for inflation. Being an “elite” gives you tolerance for a lot.

I have often wondered how someone as stupid as David Brooks, who I’ve met, can get a job in journalism anywhere. Sure, I could say the same thing about 99% of mainstream journalists. But Brooks stupidity is on a higher plane because his arrogance and condescension are far greater than the run-of-the-mill journalist. Get this. He actually thinks he’s superior. He’s far more stupid than he looks and he looks like a retard that a caregiver left unattended, especially when he tries to smile. It always turns out to be a smirk.

In 1962 gasoline was $0.20 a gallon, a $1 dollar Silver Certificate or a Silver Dollar would buy you 5 gallons of gas.
Today no more Silver Certificates but that same dollar buys you a third of a gallon of gasoline, and a silver dollar buys you 5-6 gallons of gasoline.

Brooks was part of the new math generation where 2+2 was whatever you wanted it to be. Thank God the 40’s generation, with their slide rules, did the math to get us to the moon and back.
