There are several credible candidates in Ohio’s Republican primary to replace Sen. Rob Portman next year. With so many options for voters, deciding which to rule out first seems like a smart first step.
Contenders include former state treasurer and legislator Josh Mandel, former Ohio GOP chairwoman Jane Timken, Cleveland-area businessmen Bernie Moreno and Mike Gibbons, and Cincinnati venture capitalist J.D. Vance.
Most polls have shown upwards of a third of likely voters are undecided, with Mandel in the lead, Vance trailing behind him, and everyone else laboring in single digits. Donald Trump won Ohio by 8 points last November, so candidates have been pandering for Trump’s endorsement with varying degrees of desperation.
From 2012-2016, I worked full-time covering Ohio policy fights from a conservative viewpoint – I spent years highlighting the pluses of labor reform and the minuses of Gov. John Kasich’s Medicaid expansion. My opinion, for what it’s worth, is that the worst Republican Senate candidate is the pro-union, pro-Obamacare technocrat advised by Kasich’s longtime enforcer.

But, as I write this, a huge swath of the Republican Ohio Senate primary electorate remains undecided, and an authoritarian Silicon Valley billionaire has invested $10 million in convincing Ohioans that big-government, Team Kasich Republican J.D. Vance is their best choice.

Oops, sorry. I misread the headline thinking that Kasich was saying that Vance is the worst option.
It does say, "When J.D. Vance moved back to Ohio from San Francisco (or was it D.C.?) to run for office, he… partnered with Kasich’s right-hand man of 20 years."
Thiel is a strong Trump supporter.
He’s a stealth assistant Democrat who will say ANYTHING to get elected.
After that...
Perhaps Thiel is a Trump supporter, but according to this author, “Vance is a former CNN contributor who got famous by bashing Trump and Trump voters.”
Tucker Carlson was a CNN host. You can’t use that as a measure.
There are far worse folks in Silicon Valley than Thiel.
Tucker and Breitbart love Vance.
Also remember Mark Levin was totally against Trump and then he became one of Trumps strongest supporters.
I guess we will know when Trump endorses, until then you can’t believe much of anything.
So did I and a lot of people here who changed our minds later.
It wasn’t like there wasn’t valid concern - there was tons of tape of Trump supporting abortion, attacking Republicans and conservatives, supporting “universal healthcare”, awful rulings like Kelo v. Connecticut, supporting amnesty, blasting Romney for being too tough on immigration and blaming that for his loss in 2012, etc. that shaped our view of him and skepticism his sudden 180 degree turn on a host of issues was genuine was perfectly valid. Turns out his sudden 180 degree turns were indeed genuine, or at least he was keeping “the deal” with us in exchange for getting our support.
I have learned to really like JD!!
Mandel is Marco Rubio’s Mini Me.
