Furious Special Prosecutor May Charge Jussie Smollett with Perjury for Lying Under Oath

A furious and victorious Special Prosecutor Dan Webb has put Jussie Smollett on notice after the court proved the disgraced the Hollywood star had stood in the witness stand and lied “hours and hours and hours.”

Webb said he may hit the actor with perjury charges.

Webb said after winning convictions of 5 of the 6 counts Smollett was charged with:

“For Mr. Smollett to get up in front of the jury and lie for hours and hours and hours, that really compounded his misconduct.

“Defendants have a right to defend themselves but defendants do not have the right to go in front of a jury and lie under oath.”

He added that while it is rare for someone who was convicted to get hit with perjury charges he said he would wait and see what to do in this case as he “just got the verdict 30 minutes ago.”

He did not seem happy that Smollett lied under oath and said he would bring the lies up at sentencing.

“I felt it was also important for the Cook County judicial system to get a trial. Whether we won or lost a trial was not the issue,” Webb added.

"Might alleged hate crime hoaxer Jussie Smollet finally have to answer for his supposedly divisive actions? He will if the city of Chicago has anything to say about it.

According to Fox News, the city of Chicago filed a civil lawsuit against Smollett on Thursday in an effort to recoup city funds spent on investigating Smollett’s allegedly false hate crime hoax. The lawsuit reportedly stated that the civil complaint against Smollett “pursues the full measure of damages allowed under the false statements ordinance.”

So glad the City of Chicago is doing this. Perjury charges should be pursued as well.

There should be full “justice” for Jussie.

I’m inclined to agree with you. I doubt they’ll charge him with perjury. I didn’t study his testimony but I understand that the lying was pretty brazen. Brought up at sentencing, maybe a short custodial term because of it.

Make him pay back all the money that was wasted investigating the fake crime.

People lie on the stand constantly, lawyers lie from the dias in court regularly. How often does a perjury charge ever get brought,, much less stick? It should be more often.

Someone as pathological as Smollett could be charged over and over forever because in each subsequent trial, he would likely again lie from the stand, sparking new charges.

Prosecutor Dan Webb was on Fire yesterday - if he has anything to do with Juicy’ sentencing, it will be for jail time and a million dollar fine.

You beat me to it.

It’s not perjury when it’s “personal.”

Good!

We need to restore equal justice under the law. Time for the rich, powerful, connected and select subgroups in the population to be held FULLY accountable for their actions...just like the rest of us. As it is, even if successfully prosecuted for perjury, this POS is likely to get a much lighter sentence than anyone reading this comment would have gotten for doing the exact same thing - but I’m glad that he was at least prosecuted and will pay some penalty, because I honestly expected nothing to come of this when the story first broke.

“Make him pay back all the money that was wasted investigating the fake crime.”

I bet there will be a restitution order in the sentence requiring just that.

A lawyer once said that most trials come down to who is the better liar, and that includes the police.

They were saying that Smollet would probably get probation.

For him to cost the city as much as he did. And to have stirred up racial hatred across the country. He should get much more than probation.

So I’m glad to see the city is pursuing civil damages. And I’m fine with him being charged perjury charges too.

There was damage done to society and race relations, among other things. What didn’t happen to him really happens to others. Who will believe them now? Needs to spend at least a few months in the slam.

Putting Smollet in jail would be like putting a fat kid in a candy store.
