Take your soppressata sandwich on baguette and shove it up your perfectly creased pants, Brooks.

The best thing for real conservatism is to stop watching those RINO establishment wonks and politicians on Sunday Morning Talk shows and to start listening to your neighbors and friends and start finding a news source that isn’t AP, Reuters, UPI, AFP, CBS, NBC, ABC or MSDNC et al.

Oh, and I can’t stress this enough - your local drive time AM/FM news? They’re all leftists who get their news trash from AP and your local leftist news rags.

Man...my idea of conservatism is a world different than what I read here. I'm an economist and my hero from day one has been Milton Freedman. My kind of conservatism is embodied in his book Free to Choose. If you have not read it, you should. It's not written for economists; it's written for everyone who wants to understand what they see going on around them.

Bush League Republicans were never conservatives.

They just played them on TV.

From the article:

“Conservatism is dying and what is rising up in its place is first and foremost a rejection of the core ideas of radicalism. Equality, freedom, and democracy are no longer axioms of the right. Instead, what lies at the heart of the new right is an acceptance of the human condition and the implications that flow from it.”

Does anyone have an idea of what the author is saying in this ¶, particularly in the last two paragraphs?, cause I got nothin’.

Orthodox Conservatism is something I’ve been ranting about on this site for decades.

Endless enemies and wars
Free Trade
Open Borders
Export of Capital Stock

Political Charlatans and Liars...all of them.

Conservatism without Nationalism is like Faith without Works

The initial definition of "the Right" were those who supported monarchy. Every other position was to the left. Conservatism is a variation of liberalism just as libertarianism is, i e. classical liberalism.

Why should we expect a liberal philosophy like conservatism to conserve anything?

These people believe that the Right is run by White Supremacist’s because that’s what their television tells them. They don’t personally know any but they believe they are everywhere. Probably the next town over is eat up with them.

"the new right’s strange and dangerous cult of toughness.”

Cult of toughness? What is that supposed to mean? Are we the ones who march around with clenched fists all the time? Are we the ones who march around with black masks all the time Are we the ones who burnt down dozens of businesses and government offices last year? Are we the ones who shut down speakers we disagree with? Are we the ones who attack photographers and journalists? David French has gone psycho. I don't think National Review will last another five years.

“Conservatism is supposed to conserve something, right?”

For Brooks, French and their ilk, I think it refers to their fashion choices, not much else.

In my observation, there are two major aspects to the movement now:

Trump supporters and Republicans.

It’s possible for a person to be both, but it sure seems like a large proportion of Trump supporters loath the Republican party as much as they do the Democrats, maybe even more, as one expects one’s enemies to be treacherous and untrustworthy, but it hurts more when the backstab comes from someone with an ‘R’ after their name. And vice-versa of course, many lifelong Republicans utterly loath the populist and stridently ideological motivations and actions of Trump supporters.

As of now the Trump faction controls a large part, and by far the most energized and vital part of the Republican party, but there are still enough non Trump supporting Republicans in the party leadership to make things very difficult as far as getting policy done, or stopping bad policy from being made.

I think the author nai.led it. Conservatives are the Washington Generals to the Harlem Globetrotter Clowns.
It’s hard to persuade when all you want is to be left alone to conduct your personal affairs with acknowledgment of your contributions to a civil society and a neutral judge in disputed matters. Individual Liberty and Economic Freedom doesn’t mean much these days.

Not only is David Brooks not conservative, he’s one of the least conservative people at the New York Times.

"An example of this phenomenon is a piece by New York Times columnist David Brooks......"

David Brooks? FULL STOP.

This article is 100% deceitful, since it uses NON-CONSERVATIVES in order to attack conservatism.

When Mitt Romney called himself a "severe conservative", we as conservatives laughed our butts off. Taki's took him seriously and believed him.

Taki's apparently believes Jeb "Please Clap" Bush is a conservative. He also cites George Will. What an insult. It's so insulting.

What a bunch of losers. They're even dumber than the progressives are. That's why they've got all of about 30 readers. Why does anybody take this trash seriously?

Conservatism is the solution to the problem. That has not changed.
