SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law Friday a bill setting new political boundary lines for New Mexico’s three congressional districts for the next decade.
The new congressional map, which was passed by state lawmakers on largely party-line votes with majority Democrats voting in favor, could reshape the political landscape in New Mexico.
It splits Albuquerque into two different districts and moves some of southeast New Mexico, traditionally a conservative stronghold, into congressional districts now represented by U.S. Reps. Melanie Stansbury and Teresa Leger Fernandez, both Democrats.
While a court challenge could still be filed against the new plan, Lujan Grisham said the map upholds democracy and sets a level playing field.
U.S. Rep. Yvette Herrell, an Alamogordo Republican whose 2nd Congressional District becomes more Democratic under the plan, assailed the legislation earlier this week.
“The gerrymandered map New Mexico Democrats have proposed shows how desperate they are to try to save Nancy Pelosi’s majority,” Herrell said in a statement. “I look forward to running and winning in 2022 and providing New Mexico voters the conservative representation they deserve.”
The new map, Senate Bill 1, gives each district a mix of urban and rural communities — triggering objections from Republicans who said it would dilute the voting strength of conservatives by lumping them in with liberal city residents.

Look at the result as detailed below:
NM-1 would continue to represent north Albuquerque but also take in most of Rio Rancho and cover a host of rural counties, stretching southeast to pick up part of Roswell.
NM-2 would pick up much of Albuquerque’s West Side, South Valley and parts of the Barelas neighborhood. NM-2 is otherwise rooted in southern New Mexico.
NM-3, currently covering northern New Mexico, which is heavily populated with Native Americans and Hispanic communities, would continue to cover Farmington and Santa Fe, but would also reach into the oil patch and cover part of Hobbs.

And this is how, regardless of how bad things get in the country thru 2022, the DEMs will retain the House.
Its always the (*) democrats that reshape th r maps if they cannot win at the ballot box.
Rapides Parish and neighbors were swallowed up, and though represented by Republicans ,it is now that we are represented by the pick of the vote from Monroe.
Dems/Marxists/progressives just HATE free and fair elections, and that extends to fixing districts to unfairly represent Dem voters.
But.... Biden’s doj is suing TX for its new mapping... Saying of course... It’s racist and disenfranchises people of color....
They used to say "Patriotism is the last refuse of a scoundrel."
Now it's "Democracy is the last refuse of a scoundrel."
I’ve been slowing reading “A History of Western Philosophy” by Bertrand Russell. I’ve been struck by the big sweeping changes of thought and religion that swept through Greece and the Roman Empire, how times could be prosperous and peaceful for a couple hundred years and then everything falls apart. I feel like we are living through one of those times when everything is falling apart driven by barbarians in our midst.
No matter what Dem state I checked the presidential election has unbelievable numbers.
Every battleground state the Dems added over 500,000 Democratic voters except one (this one 200,000 because it was a small state). With over 80% of the adult population voting. The national average ws 55%. Looks like if you got a Dem state there was cheating, NM is no different.
415,335 Obama
385,234 Clinton
501,614 (30% more Dem Voters)
“...Lujan Grisham said the map upholds democracy...”
“Democracy” is a default term used by democrats as though it were a good thing. As it has devolved, it most definitely is not!
I jumped through 10 question hoops to get to the article with the hope there was a map there, to no avail. Poor journalism, IMO, to not have produced a map to illustrate the ridiculous lines drawn by the legislature. Based on the article description, everything emanates from a nexus at ABQ in order to ensure the votes in less-populous areas are thoroughly washed out of the mix.
The experiment didn’t fail, it was hijacked.
“The experiment didn’t fail, it was hijacked”.
Exactly!
We had to stop in NM twice on my way east to relocate to AR, and I was disappointed with conditions during those stops on I-40.
I used to love NM, and even spent a gorgeous early fall night in Cloud Croft. A LOT of years ago. I was enamored with the area and the people who helped us at that time and have had a soft spot for the state ever since.
I’ll just have to keep praying that the Red parts of the state are bright red and that the color spreads!
Of course she did, communist bitch.
As much as I love NM, I’d sell out and leave if I was physically able to do so.
Well, at least we can still elect a few local conservatives. Keeping a good Constitutionalist County Sheriff will be important as ‘civil war 2.0’ brews.
Our side always gets sued and caves.
I haven't done New Mexico yet, but I'll bet you can pinpoint where the harvesting is going on.
