Trump says American Jews ‘either don’t like Israel or don’t care about Israel’
That’s the opposite of an anti-Semitic trope. It’s a fact of life.
I’d say many , perhaps most, American Jews dislike Israel.
I’m not Jewish, but I’m much more pro-Israel than most Jews I’ve met.
Trump, right yet again.
The assimilationist, secularized, left-wing Jews, definitely. Some of the ultra-orthodox, too. But the Orthodox and Chabad are a different story entirely.
More “fellow white people” stuff from the usual sources.
The anti-Semitic trope usually goes, “American Jews care more for Israel than America. That’s where their real loyalty lies.” But this is closer to the truth, although I’d qualify it somewhat. It certainly is not anti-Semitic. His favorite daughter and her husband, both of whom were part of his kitchen cabinet, are Jewish. So are some of his grandkids.
Speaking the truth about liberal Jews is an uncomfortable topic
I live for truth and no question that one is third rail .....you always have to qualify and equate ad nauseum
I hate that
Nobody and I mean nobody cares if you insult white Christian southerners ....we are the ass end of politically correct....equated with Afrikaners
Yet the truth about leftist Jews which are so apparent these days ....and their influence and open derision frequently of things I hold dear
Careful with that axe Eugene....on that topic
Is hard to stomach that we should just shut up about it
The irony is the true enemies liberal Jews have...are on their own damn side not amongst traditionalists
Trump does misspeak sometimes as when he lumps folks together who ought not be lumped together. To suggest that all American Jews don’t care about Israel lumps all the secular, Leftist, Liberal, Progressive Jews with all other American Jews and that is an error.

He’s right about liberals of the Hebraic faith, who are not Jews. Their religion is liberalism.
What he should not have said was Israel had control over Congress. That is an anti-Semitic trope. I know he didn’t mean it that way, but it is unfortunately, fuel for the left.
He needs to clarify that one point.
Let’s face it for decades American Jews as a political force made Israel untouchable in Congress. Now, as Trump stated, most American Jews are so leftist they sympathize with the PLO and are embarrassed by Israel. As Trump said, now the opposite is true. The Democrat party (and right now they control Congress) is dominated by leftists and pro PLO politics.
Trump was speaking to an Israeli journalist about the attitudes of American Jews toward Israel and the political result.
This is what the left does. Trump is a total supporter of Israel. He is upset to see American Jews abandon Israel. But they will make people think Trump is antisemitic. Meanwhile, the democrats would get Israel wiped out and the Israelis killed en masse.
Donald Trump’s father helped build a synagogue. DJT donated 100s of thousands of dollars to Jews expelled by their own government from Sinai in the 1980s and from Gaza in 2005.
Bibi and American Jews as a whole are ingrates, as Bibi’s past closest Israeli supporters can attest to.
I don’t think there is a serious disagreement here. I just think Trump, who is without question the best President ever towards Israel, made an unforced error by saying “It used to be that Israel had absolute power over Congress.” This is a classic phrasing of anti-Semites, a gross overstatement of the effects of lobbying Congress on issues affecting Israel only, not “absolute power over Congress”.
While I acknowledge that the campaign to lobby Congress for Israel’s needs was remarkably successful, it could not have happened if it wasn’t for the natural alliance, common values and even affection between the two countries. There are huge mutual strategic benefits as well. Did Jewish lobbying have an effect on policy? Absolutely. Was it because Jews control Congress? Not even close.
