So you’re okay with Colorado wolves taking down cattle but not Canadian wolves? And if ranchers are compensated for losses sustained on their property what’s the harm? I’m not trying to be a smart ass, I truly want to understand the anti-wolves argument.
I appreciate that you are asking a legitimate question.
Colorado wolves were not as big and aggressive as Canadian wolves. They were also culled for a reason. I am not okay with either one. The civilized world pushed them out of inhabited areas for a very good reason. What I am okay with, is for people who want them, to go ahead and release them in their own neighborhoods. They can then enjoy them all they want. I’m sure the wolves would adapt just like coyotes do. I don’t want to have to be concerned because some idiot who lives a hundred miles from here thinks that they should be released in my back yard because they believe the Disney version of wolves. I suppose the people who want them might change their minds when one of their children has its guts ripped out by three or four wolves and is eaten alive by the pack.
Ranchers are rarely compensated for losses. When cattle graze thousands of acres they often find the carcass long after the death, when other predators have also feasted on it, so it is impossible to trace it to the wolf kill. The ranchers I know have not been reimbursed for on tenth of their losses.
