Hundreds of flights have been canceled between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day – with one airline blaming Omicron’s toll on staffing.
United Airlines canceled about 120 flights Friday and another 28 on Saturday, the company said.
“The nationwide spike in Omicron cases this week has had a direct impact on our flight crews and the people who run our operation,” a United Airlines spokesperson told The Post.
The company said they are reaching out to customers affected by the cancellations before they head to the airport.
Delta Air Lines is also facing cancellations on the same two days.
As of about 8:30 p.m., the airline has scrapped 92 flights on Christmas Eve — accounting for four percent of the day’s total trips, according to Flight Aware.
On Christmas Day, Delta canceled 84 flights — or two percent of the trips that day, the site said.
Weather is also factoring into the Delta cancellations, with winter storms impacting the Seattle and Salt Lake City area.
“Delta teams have exhausted all options and resources — including rerouting and substitutions of aircraft and crews to cover scheduled flying — before canceling around 90 flights for Friday,” a spokesperson told The Post.
“We apologize to our customers for the delay in their holiday travel plans. Delta people are working hard to get them to where they need to be as quickly and as safely as possible on the next available flight,” the spokesperson said.

Yep, a number of folks left yesterday or the day before. Scheduled to return on Tuesday...guess they better check their airline status as I do not think this will be better by then.

Agreed, but the commies are justifying it with positive tests and further crushing the spirit of the season. By further depriving the people of the “normalcy” of the holidays, they believe they are conditioning them. The problem for them is those same people are learning new skills, such as rope making.

Maybe if they hadn’t fired unvaccinated staff at the same time vaccinated staff were increasingly coming down with Covid, they wouldn’t be in this mess.

Hospital ERs are overwhelmed, non-emergency procedures cancelled, National Guard deployed, MetroHealth has closed 3 locations due to lack of staff and consolidate, Churches are closing and moving to live streaming, the restaurant group are closing and some are now demanding to see proof of vaccination(dumb as everyone can spread omincron)...and on and on.
As I picked up keys from a concierge yesterday, “it sure doesn’t feel like Christmas” was here response.
Keep in mind, it is not about bed capacity per se, it is about staffing. A highly transmissible variant and testing. Test positive you get quarantined, even if you have no symptoms.

I am supposed to fly home today. I would not be on the road except for taking care of my parents in assisted living. Southwest still shows good. I wasn’t going to see my parents until after the holidays as I hate flying during the rush.
Couple of our people got the sniffles last week. We shut down til after new year and put the other 97 out of work, being responsible for “safety” and all. Do I even need the \sarc tag ?
